2. Sleeping Struggles

Tuesday mornings are always brutal especially when I'm in the midst of planning the ball. I haven't gotten any sleep and I feel like a zombie as I walk into work. "Morning sir" Penny greets me brightly but she only earns a grunt in response as I walk into my office and close the door behind myself before making my way towards my desk to take a seat.

I reach forward to boot up my computer before putting my briefcase on the desk and resting my elbows on top of it while resting my head in my hands. A soft knock sounds on my door followed by a pair of long legs stepping inside. "Um good morning Mr. Matthews" Maya's soft voice says hesitantly. "I can come back if you'd like" she adds as her heels click on the linoleum of my floor, her figure moving closer to my desk.

I raise my gaze and watch her place a cup of coffee on my desk before stepping a respectful distance back and intertwining her hands in front of herself. "No please stay. I'm sorry" I apologize. "I didn't get much sleep last night" I admit, leaning forward and grabbing my coffee before relaxing into my seat.

"I gathered" she chuckles. "Unless of course you called me in your sleep" she adds. I laugh, taking a generous sip of my coffee and humming in pleasure as the hot, caffeinated liquid travels down my throat.

"I don't tend to do that" I confirm. "But perhaps I should start. You were quite polite. I don't know if I would've been that nice had I been the one woken up" I admit.

"Well you are my boss" she replies.

"True but I'd understand if you muted your phone from now on" I add making her chuckle as she nods.

"Perhaps I might" she concedes. "But in the meantime you have a meeting today with Topanga Matthews for catering of the ball. I asked her when she wanted to be scheduled and she laughed so-."

"She's my sister in law" I explain. "Anything I have planned today has to be moved according to her visit."

"Understood" she nods. "And you also have a phone conference with one of the hospitals you're raising money for at the ball. That meeting is scheduled for two this afternoon."

"Great" I reply. "Is that all Miss Hunter?"

"For now sir" she confirms. "Unless there's anything you need from me" she adds causing the impurest of thoughts to arise within my thoughts.

There were so many things I needed from the gorgeous girl standing before me beginning and ending with her and my bed. I know I promised I'd be professional and I really did mean it but that didn't mean it wasn't a difficult task, especially since I knew what it was like to be with her.

"Sir" she interrupts my thoughts.

"No there's nothing" I reply finally. "Just make sure I eat lunch. My sister in law will murder me if I don't."

"Noted" she chuckles. "I'll be back in a few hours with some takeout menus."

"Perfect. Oh and can you also look into setting up a visit to Greenwich Memorial Hospital?" I add at the last moment.

I watch her professional façade crack, obviously curious as to why I've chosen that specific hospital but she nods nonetheless. "Of course. Anything else?"

"This time I'm sure that's it. Thank you Maya."

"Of course" she nods professionally before seeing herself out. I collapse against my chair and groan, running my hands over my face. Working with her was certainly going to take way more self-control that I possessed which made it clear that I was completely and totally fucked.
