Since my last girlfriend I had always worried about getting serious with another woman but somehow Maya had made it easy. The hard part was going to get her stuff from her place where her ex, Caleb, was still staying. "I just don't understand. This isn't like you Maya" Caleb says, following her around the living room as she packs her stuff into boxes. I was in the process of labeling the ones that were already packed.
"Oh and you know me so well" she throws back, glaring at him angrily. "Look Caleb, you lost the right to have any input on my life the day you brought Stacey into our home...into our bed and fucked her. Understand?"
I look back down at the box trying to reign in the anger I felt towards Caleb. I still couldn't believe that someone would cheat on Maya, she wasn't perfect but she was as close as you could get in the real world. "Maya come on" he sighs, trying to step in front of her again. "Even your mom is worried-."
"I don't give a shit" she snaps, holding out the tape gun as she attempts to get him to back off. "The rent is covered for the next three months but after that you're on your own and you're going to have to get the lease changed. Stay or go, I really don't care."
I stand up and walk over to her, taking the heavy box off the floor. "How should I label this one?" I ask calmly. She looks over at me and chuckles, leaning in and pressing a kiss to my lips.
"We'll figure it out when we get home. Let's go." I look around the house at all the stuff she's clearly leaving behind and bring my bottom lip between my teeth. She had packed a lot of pictures and movies but the furniture and little knick-knacks were still sitting on the tables strewn around the room.
"Are you sure you don't want to bring anything else?" I ask worriedly. She looks around and suddenly has a light bulb moment as she goes running up the stairs. I share a confused look with Caleb but he simply shrugs and wanders back to his bedroom before Maya comes back down the steps a few minutes later.
"I found it" she gushes, holding out a small locket between her hands. "My mom and Shawn gave it to me for my fourteenth birthday. Shawn loaned my mom the money to buy it. It's sorta what brought them together" she marvels and a soft smile pulls at me lips. I loved how even after everything that she's been through she still believed in love so passionately and completely.
"I'm glad you remembered it then" I smile, leaning down to peck her lips. "Are you ready to get out of here now?"
"Absolutely" she nods, releasing a deep sigh. "I've never been more ready for something in my life."

It takes us about two hours to unload all of Maya's things and another hour to return the truck and drive back home. All in all it ended up being a very long day and I'm exhausted by the time we get back. I let us into the house, noting that I need to get her a key made sooner rather than later but deciding it was too late to do it today.
We walk inside as Ali is walking down the stairs with a mug in her hand. "You know, you could warn a person when they're going to be woken up by boxes being thrown around" she yawns and I roll my eyes. It was two in the afternoon by the time we got back here to unpack the moving truck.
"You know you could wake up before noon" I counter and she flips me off making Maya chuckle. Alison walks off to the kitchen, leaving us alone and I take the opportunity to take her hand and lead her further into the living room, guiding her to the couch. "So, what should we do the rest of the day? We could unpack-."
"Or we could leave that for later" she replies, scooting closer to me. "And we could actually enjoy the perks of living together." I raise an eyebrow at her as she moves to sit on my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck. I had no idea what had gotten into her but I wasn't exactly complaining...except for the fact that Alison was in the next room.
