Chapter 4 - Something New

*Dani*

"Mutations? As in more than one?" I was confused. I knew of my healing mutation, but what else was there?

"Ah, so you don't know..." Baxter pushed his glasses up his nose and sighed. "Well, I'm sure you are well aware of your healing ability - really it is so fascinating how the mutagen worked with your genes to enhance-"

"I get it," I cut him off. "I know I'm a gifted girl, but I would like to know about these other mutations you're talking about."

Baxter cleared his throat and nodded. "Right, well, it appears your muscles are growing. From what it looks like there has been in increase in tension and damage within your muscles. Both of these are often results of working out, but you have not been lifting weights within the past few months. And with your exposure to the mutagen, it is plausible to think that it is what is causing this."

"I'm still confused..." I muttered.

"You're becoming somewhat like a super soldier," Xavier said as he leaned forward.

"You mean like a superhero out of a comic book?" I scoffed. It sounded unbelievable, but I had seen plenty to not question it further. "How many more are there?"

"It appears just one more. With this one we are not quite sure what is going on. After a scan of your brain, we found some strange activity going on that is hard to explain. I believe that whatever could be going on is linked to the seizure you had earlier." Baxter said quickly.

I could see the sweat beginning to bead on his forehead and rolled my eyes, this man was irritating. "So you're saying you have no idea what this third mutation is?" Only three mutations and this guy made it sound like there were hundreds more.

Baxter pursed his lips and nodded. Sighing I threw the thin blankets off my legs and stood up. Xavier grabbed my arm as I swayed, but I jerked my arm from his grasp and walked away trying my hardest not to show that the room was spinning in my vision.

"You need to rest! Your body needs to recover from your experiences," Baxter said as he started to move forward.

"Stay away from me," I snapped. "I'm fine, I can't sit in this damned room and just wait to feel better."

"Dani," Xavier said with a surprisingly soft tone.

"Don't," I said simply then walked out of the lab. I needed to speak with Shredder.

I knocked twice and when hearing a soft grunt I opened the door. Shredder leaned against the wall across from me, his eyes closed in meditation. I closed the door behind me and stood silent until I was addressed.

"Akuma..." He said in a raspy voice. His eyes opened and moved towards me.

I bowed my head, "Master Shredder."

"What brings you here?" He asked.

"I wished to check in with you." It took a lot of effort on my half to hide my fear. Yes I was his prized warrior, but that did not mean I was safe from his anger.

"And tell me how you were captured by those retched turtles?"

I pursed my lips and looked down, ashamed of the fact. "I escaped though, and I've found out a weakness of the-"

"Don't you think we have looked at every possible weakness of theirs? We have tried exploiting them, but they come around every time and over take my soldiers." He interrupted me. "Do not act like you have done something worthy of my praise."
