"How are you?", I asked after a five minute silence in the car. We had been stuck in traffic for what had felt like ages and I was desperate to ask him what happened in English.
"If this is about what happened in English, then I don't want to talk about it", he said sternly reading my mind.
I sighed turning my head to look out the window, hoping that I could pity him into telling me. What can I say I'm a very nosy person.
"Look", he sighed looking at me.
Ka-ching
"My grades are shit and as a result I'm getting kicked off the football team and if I'm not in the football team then I can't get a scholarship, and if I don't get a scholarship I don't get into college and I just don't know anymore. I don't care", he said quickly in one breath.
"Well shit, I thought that you had just got a girl pregnant or something", I replied hoping to lighten the mood but failing.........miserably.
"If you want I can tutor you for a bit?, I know it's a stupid idea bu-"
"Could you?"
"Sure if you want, I'm no Albert Einstein but I'll try my best"
"Who?", he asked looking at me like I grew another head.
"Okay, science is definitely first on the list". I swear this boy.
"Okay. Thanks"? He laughed giving me a genuine smile. And that was the first and last genuine smile he gave me throughout the car ride, as for the rest of the car journey his cocky smirk returned when he annoyed me for a solid fifteen minutes about my naive twelve year old self and my awful decisions.
