I'm the monster, aren't I?

While you were gone, I decided to read the descriptions on your "pill" bottles.
They're not pills.
They're weapons given to you to destroy me.
I'm not an illness.
I'm a monster.
You can't destroy me like you can destroy an illness.

Did the pairs of eyes absorbing our words know I was a monster?
They at least knew I wasn't a hero.
I hope so.
It would be too difficult to set them straight.
Very few believe in monsters.
I wonder if they do.

You're accustomed to monsters.
Other than me, I mean.
They shifted to your head.
Because you're an adult now.
And they took on a more terrifying form.

Their coarse fur and slippery scales abandoned their skin.
Their sharp, yellow teeth tumbled from their mouths.
Their strange eyes turned into ones like ours.
And they adopted a new form.
With their own identities.

Under your bed was becoming too cramped and cold.
You couldn't hear them.
And the darkness concealed them completely.
So they couldn't scare you anymore.

They invented new methods.
They entered your mind, where they would be visible forever.
They became raspy, cold voices.
That you could not drown out.

That's when you know you've become an adult.
The monsters under your bed.
Become the monsters inside your head.

I am so much more than a voice.
That should be obvious.
Voices can't pick up pens and let them bleed out over paper.
Wouldn't that be strange?

You'd probably never touch a pen again.
Which would be a shame.
Because you wouldn't reply to me.

It's taken two messages.
I've noticed you've gotten quicker at replying.
I'm sure I've receive a message soon.
You want answers.
Answers from a monster.
Of course you do.
Everyone wants answers for everything.

You can keep taking those pills.
Gulp them down under the watchful eyes of your 'them'.
But they won't help you anymore.

You'll see.

Yeah, I know I'm not updating as frequently as I usually do. Maybe I'm trying to come up with ideas. Maybe I'm just being really lazy. Maybe it's both. Also, we're one read away from 200 reads, so thanks so much to everyone who has been reading this book. I've never had a book with that many reads.
