He got to see the beaches one last time.
It was hard to reconcile the pristine beaches and beautiful cities with the crumbling buildings and bombed ruins JD remembered. It was unbelievable, how much everything had changed. He took hundreds of pictures.
The people there were kind. They treated an old man like a hero. Everyone was willing to shake his hand and take a moment to thank him for his service.
JD was glad to revisit the beaches of France, the breweries of Germany. Seeing the free and happy people, JD found some peace in what he had done.
