JD payed his way for a weeklong trip to the French Riviera by selling contraband on the black market.
The war was over, but Europe was greatly wounded.
JD, with a little help from a friend in supply, could make nine bucks off of a carton of cigarettes. Blankets fetched a good price, too.
He gave most of the blankets to Carina, a young widow he had met while on leave. She knew who needed them the most.
The Riviera was beautiful. JD imagined the rest of France to be equally stunning, had the country not been destroyed by war.
