It was hard to keep a tent livable. The cold seemed to tear right through the canvas.

To keep their men alive, they requisitioned a French Calvary stable.

They cleaned out the stalls and cleared the hallways. The injured men were laid in stalls, the four walls stopping the worst of the biting wind. Heating fires were built in the aisleways, circulating warmth throughout the building. JD couldn't count the number of men whose lives were saved by the stable.

The French army may have fallen, but her people and her homeland still found a way to resist German rule.
