"Alright children. Today's the day to ask questions. We are briefly going to run through the most complex concept that has ever existed in this world, and probably in any other. Magic."She raised her eyebrows expectantly.
"Don't you have questions?" She asked them.
"Of course, we do, but it's way too broad. We're expecting that your teachings may answer most."
Anaya pondered. She brought her fingers to her chin and nodded understandingly.
"Fair enough. Let's begin with the how, shall we?" Anaya broke into a long discussion, lecturing them about the base rules they had to follow when performing any kind of magic.
Since magic encompassed practically anything from clapping to get a book (like she had done in the library) up to the complex spell used to imprison Gaetano centuries ago, it was very important for them to know what performing magic based on.
First, the mind had to had a sharp focus. Concentrate on what your intentions are, she told them, because if you don't the spell will rampage free. Performing magic requires not only the lore but also the rationale or the magician, because a spell is nothing without its cause.
Second, the perpetrator had to know what the extent of his magic could do, and what the spell could do to him.
"Magic doesn't burst out of nothingness. As any other force in the universe, magic has its source. When you use magic, your body has to drain the magic from somewhere. In most of the cases, magic is drawn from the person's life force, the very essence that makes life unique."
She snapped her fingers and a white flame appeared over her fingers, flickering like fire.
"Use too much of it, and the life will literally run out." She blew at the small flame, extinguishing it completely.
"Which is why you use other sources of magical energy to absorb from. Astral events, amulets, temples, candles, salt. Anything that brings you closer to a deity can help you draw from their practically endless power."
She continued explaining sources and how they work, how much you can use of it and how to channel these powers. They watched her closely, absorbing the information in awe. They leaned forward toward her and marveled on what they were discovering about magic. About themselves.
She clapped again and received a book that came flying from her left.
"Okay, how does that work?" Asked Synthia.
"These are Servant Spirits. They aren't actual spirits, of course, but they do come from my life source. Well, kind-of life source. I'm not actually alive, if we're being technical so–"
"Wait, wait, wait. What?" Tyler asked.
Anaya sighed. "First things first. The servants spirits are a materialization of my powers, so they are basically me sacrificing bits of my power for comfort." She waved at the air around her and caused a swooshing noise. Slowly, light blue orbs started materializing around the room. They swiveled around, organizing books, levitating cleaning supplies, and keeping the room tidy in general. Every few seconds orbs would go through the doors, seamlessly passing through.
She waved again, and all the orbs disappeared.
"Now, the other pressing question was?"
Caleb clicked his tongue. "Who are you?"
"Anaya of Kameiros, daughter to the local ruler of my Cretian city. My father ruled the town with an iron fist, and he ruled over me just as harshly. All my youth, he protected me from suitors, kept me isolated inside the fortress walls from where I was never allowed to leave. I felt so alone... I had to leave. So one night, I escaped and managed to snuggle myself into a small ship that was leaving the Harbor and headed to the other side of the Mediterranean. That night, a storm wrecked the ship to the point where everything that's left is a few scraps of worn wood at the bottom of the ocean."
