A Promise

She stared up at the darkened sky

Seeing no light made her cry

That's when the sun whispered to her

"I'm coming back soon, rest assured.

Other people are having my light, now

But, my dear, I will not allow

You to ever be forgotten.

I'll make sure you see me again."

For a display of its promise,

It gave her the moon as a gift

So she could look up at the sky

And it would help to remind

Her of the always shining light

That watched over her through the night

A light to never leave her side

For, it was even deep inside

It filled her heart and filled her thoughts

It helped her rise when she felt naught

She was broken and forgotten

But it helped her find light again

It never gave up its promise

To give her the light that she missed

But, she was just the first of many

If you look up in the night, you'll see

It's light shining down on the world

Living the promise it once told

But, it will never stop shining, dear

Until the sun's light disappears
