"Hadh hain yaar, tum abhi tak has rahi ho?"

Zubiya tried her best to stop giggling but in vain. "Sorry, par hasne wali baat toh hain. Seriously Asfi, nurse ko bhi hasi aa rahi thi. Woh toh aap uske boss hain isi liye usne bauhat mushkil se control kiya."

Asfand turned towards her with an annoyed expression. He gently placed down Amaal on the bed, careful not to wake her up, and sat down beside her. Zubiya kept the files on the bedside table and sat down beside her daughter on the other side of the bed as well.

Asfand started to complain in a whispering tone. "Abh agar meri beti ko takleef hogi toh main hath pe hath rakhke aise chup toh nahi baith sakta na?"

"Aap ko dekh ke lag raha tha jaise injection Amaal ko nahi aap ko lagaya ja raha ho. Aaj toh apne Dr.Najma ko bhi dara diye. Woh bechaari toh shayad apne capabilities ko hi doubt karne lagi thi." Zubiya broke out in a fit of giggles again reminiscing the sight of her husband correcting the pediatrician and nurses every now and then so that they don't hurt their little one. It was honestly quite funny to watch and also very unusual on Asfand's part.

Asfand let out a grunt in disagreement.

"Achha Asfi ek baat bataye, aap abhi se hi Amaal ko lekar itna sensitive hain, toh jab woh bari hogi toh kya hoga? I mean larkiya jab bari hoti hain unhe hazaar tarah ke takleefo se guzarni parti hain. Chalein baaki dard ka agar chhor bhi dey, farz kare kabhi agar kisine uska dil tor diya toh? Heart break ka pain toh bauhat zyada takleef ka hota hain."

Before she could continue, Asfand interjected. "Majaal hain kisi ki, ke who meri beti ka dil tore? I'll break his legs before that."

"Ohho aisi baat hain! Tabh toh lagta hain aapko isey zindagi bhar ghar mein aur apne aankhon ke samne hi rakhna parega." Zubiya couldn't stop laughing. She was rather amused at what her husband had to say. She hadn't seen this overly protective side of him before.

"Zarurat pare toh who bhi karunga." Asfand replied defensively. Suddenly a memory flashed in Zubiya's mind. Her own teenage days, where she had done a lot of things that she regretted about later. Her cheerful expression changed into a worried one. It didn't take Asfand much time to realize what had happened and he immediately placed a hand over his wife's.

"Agar tumhare zehen main kuch ulta seedha khayal aa raha hain na, toh use nikaal do. Past ko past mein hi chhor dena chahiye Zubiya. Please don't ponder over something that doesn't matter anymore."

"Asfi, main jab Amaal ko dekhti hoon na mujhe Ammi aur Abbi ki bauhat yaad aati hain. Abbi jaise bhi the, unhe meri fikar thi. Maine joh dukh unhe diya hain na, uske liye main hamesha guilty feel karungi. Abh jab main khud ek maa hoon mujhe yeh realize ho raha hain ke bacche apne parents ke liye kitne precious hote hain. Mujhe toh lagta hain ke meri zindagi abh Amaal ke bina kuch bhi nahi hain."

Asfand let out a deep sigh, reflecting on what Zubiya had said. "Meri bhi. I never could've imagined ke mere liye kisi ki ek muskurahat itne important ho sakti hain ke uske saamne duniya ki har khushi chhoti lagni lage. Poori duniya ek taraf, aur meri Amaal ki khushiyan key taraf."

Just as Asfand was about to add something further, his eye caught Zubiya looking at their daughter, who was smiling in her sleep. He placed his hand on her back, so did Zubiya. Both gently rubbed their hands over her back and then smiled at each other.

"Sapna dekh rahi hain shayad. Allah iski muskurahat ko aise hi barkarar rakhe." Zubiya made a little prayer in her mind for her daughter's happiness. Asfand did too.

"Ameen."
