May 5, 1955
Guam
0600 (6:00AM)
The Japs surrendered, we didn't expect this to be so short.
I thought this would be were I died but turns out, that won't be happening.
"Captain, we have a transport plane en route." Said a lieutenant.
"Roger." I said.
"Captain Evan, thanks for protecting this island." Said the lieutenant.
"No problem." I said.
He saluted and I saluted back.
He then shook my hand.
"You're truly a mighty fine Captain." He said, as he walked away.
I heard the plane land on the airport to take us back to America.
I went to get all my stuff.
Before I left I decided to do one last thing.
I walked over to the port, and looked at the Montana one last time.
"You saved my life and fought well." I said.
She truly was one hell of a battleship.
"She had one hell of a good life." Said someone, who walked up next to me. It was Jess.
"Yes she did." I said.

I then walked towards the airport with Jess.
I see the plane waiting on the runway.
Before boarding the plane I took a good final look at the island.
"Evan!" Said someone.
"Oh James, I thought you were going to leave with us." I said.
"No, I still feel I have a bigger duty calling me, I won't abandon Montana just yet." Said James.
I had a feeling Jay had the same opinion since he wasn't in the plane.
"Well, this is goodbye." Said James.
"I guess so." I said.
He saluted, and I saluted back.
"Take care of Montana, she still has a long life of fighting ahead of her." I said.
"Yes sir." Said Evan.
"It was an honor to serve alongside you Evan." Said James.
"Eh, you probably will find a better replacement for me." I said.
We both laughed.
"But, in all seriousness, the honor is mine James." I said.
The planes engines began to start up.
"Well, goodbye, Evan." Said James.
"Goodbye, James." I said.
I got in the plane and after that they closed the plane's door.
I sat right next to Jess in a window seat.
"So Evan, what do you say, you want to come over by my house?" Asked Jess.
"Sure." I said.
The plane took off.

15 Years Later
Miami, Florida U.S.A
April 16, 1970

It's been 10 years since I married Jess, we both moved to Florida together and have started a family, we now have a new addition to the family too, Tyler, our son.
I'm now a retired veteran, with a medal of honor.
Now, I'm just a father supporting his son, and attempting to give him a bright future.
I don't plan to make him enlist in the military, however that's his choice.
All I know is that, I fought for my country, twice, and that's the kind of legacy I wanted to leave.
I close the book.
"Well...lets see what else the future holds." I said to myself, as I get up from the desk and walk out the room, knowing that there was a once a war that I helped end.
