I rolled to the side, reloading my SMG in the process. Death Word spun to face me.

He's quicker than I thought.

I let off another volley of fire and he sidestepped, dodging all the shots. He sent out his own volley, which I narrowly dodged. I rushed him, firing and he dropped his rifle to draw a knife. With amazing dexterity, I holstered my SMG while giving Death Word a vicious kick to the face, chipping a part of the mask away. He took a staggered step back and I gave him another vicious kick to his stomach, causing him to double over. I made a move to stab him with a knife I had, but he suddenly kicked me, causing me to lose my grip on the knife.

He then grabbed my neck and lifted me up, my legs flailing around, trying to break free. Death Word walked over to a wall with me in his grasp and he slammed me against the wall, my heart pounding in my head. It was beating so fast, I'm surprised my AmuSphere hasn't tried to boot me yet. Death Word leaned close and whispered into my ear.

"Nothing can save you now."

I struggled to speak through his grip. "Nothing except myself."

I suddenly twisted and threw a plasma grenade, damaging Death Word, but not me. He let go of me and I gave him an uppercut to the jaw, then a foot to the face. He grabbed it, but I twisted and hit him from the side with my other leg, causing him to release me. I tried to punch him, but he blocked and punched back, which I also blocked. We exchanged a rapid series of blows, all of them blocked. As we fought, I noticed a Photon Sword lying in the ashy dirt. A familiar insignia was painted in blue on the hilt.

Why thank you, Aviator!

I played dirty and kicked Death Word in his privates, then sprinted over to the sword. Death Word seemingly glared at me, then drew a thin rapier-like weapon and charged me. I forced myself to wait for the last second to pull the sword from the dirt and ignite it. His silver blade met with my red one and sparks flew. With a yell of defiance, I gave Death Word a hearty shove, causing him to back off. We began to circle the stadium, never taking our eyes off the other.

"You are quite the fighter, Kureha."

I batted my eyes, trying to play on every man's weakness: pretty girls. "Why thank you."

"That wasn't a compliment. And drop the act; you can't fool me."

"Hey, at least I tried."

I noticed Death Word shift, indicating he was reaching for something.

Might be an OP pistol or somethin'.

"Death Word, tell me. Why do you want Asuna?"

He chuckled, then revealed a... business card?!? "They never told you? I suppose it'd be something they'd wish to keep buried. Asuna belongs to me."

I recoiled, disgusted. "Disgusting. Who says so?!"

"Why, it's my right! I did keep her alive when she got trapped in her NerveGear."

I bared my teeth, now enraged. "What do you mean 'it's your right'?!?"

He stopped. "I deserve to own her!"

I stopped, my hands curling into as-tight-can-be fists. "YOU DON'T DESERVE TO OWN HER! NO ONE DESERVES TO OWN ANOTHER LIVING BEING, YOU MONSTER!"

Death Word chuckled at how furious I had become. "Oh, if only you knew the full story. Then you'd understand why she belongs to me."

That was it. I lunged forward, putting all my strength into my blow. Death Word narrowly blocked my strike and began to fight back. I swung again with all - nay, more - my strength, as did Death Word. Our blades locked in a brilliant flash of yellow as sparks were sent sky-high. I rolled backward, breaking the lock. I felt a sharp pain in my back as Death Word's sword grazed my skin, but I didn't care. I had a job to do.

Taking Death Word by surprise, I drew my SMG and began to shoot as I rushed towards him, saber ready. Once we entered close-quarters, I paused my firing to unleash a flurry of blows with the Photon Sword in my hand. We danced around the stadium, me constantly on the offensive. Somehow, I managed to launch Death Word's sword from his grasp and knock him to the ground.

As I made the move to finish him off, I felt a sharp pain in my avatar's stomach. Feeling weak, I looked down to see a black Photon Sword had pierced my stomach. Death Word extinguished his sword, then gave me a vicious kick, sending me flying. I hit the ground tumbling, my HP only mere pixels. Aviator's sword somehow stayed in my hand, but my SMG flew away, far out of reach.

With a feeling of regret, I turned my head to look at Death Word, who was slowly walking towards me. A hand gently pried Aviator's Photon Sword from my grasp and a player stepped over me, raising twin swords. He lit them simultaneously and snapped them down, a defiant challenge. I smiled.

Aviator, my hero.
