"Why do you always jump?"

Why do I always jump? I jump because I have to.

"Whoah! No way!" The voice came from in front of me and belonged to a young male.

Slowly, I opened my eyes to see a human male around twenty-one years old creeping closer to me. My armor unlocked and I stood up, towering over him. The guy just looked up at me, awed. I rolled my eyes inside of my helmet and looked around.

"Where am I?"

"Japan."

I looked around. "Japan, huh? That means I'll be able to return to the UNSC."

The man's eyes began to dart around. I looked at him.

"What's wrong."

"Uh, th-there's no UNSC here."

I tilted my head just a bit. "What do you mean? Has it chaned into something else?"

"Uh, it hasn't been created yet."

I stared him down. "You're not making any sense. What year is it?"

"Umm, 2029...."

I looked right at him. "What?"

"Th-the year's 2029...."

I looked straight ahead. 2029, huh? "Tell me, is Earth spreading out to the stars yet?"

"Uh, no. Umm, h-how about you come home with me?"

I looked at him. "What?"

"Y-you need a place to stay while you wait to be brought back to the UNSC, right? I'd be happy to harbor you, if it's okay with you, that is."

I pondered his request. He knows more about this Earth than I do, and I also need a place to store my armor while I'm here. I'm fairly certain I'll draw unwanted attention if I wear this around. "Fine."

"Alrighty then! My house is this way."

And with that, the kid took off. I sighed and followed him, slipping into the shadows to avoid getting spotted. Eventually, we entered his home and I laid down my MA5D. He went into the kitchen and I took this as a time to take off my armor. I started to pull my helmet off when the front door opened.

Swiftly, I slammed my helmet back down, grabbed my rifle from the table, and aimed at whoever was at the door. The man poked his head out of the kitchen, then bolted out to stand in my way.

"Whoa, whoa! Chill out! She's my friend, okay?"

I looked at the woman, then lowered my rifle. "Sorry, ma'am. I didn't know."

She let out a sigh of relief. "It's okay. So, mind if I ask who you are?"

I stood up tall. "Sierra-One-One-Seven, Master Chief Petty Officer. Also known as Spartan-One-One-Seven. You may also call me Master Chief, if you wish."

They both went slack-jawed. The two looked at each other before the man walked back into the kitchen, mumbling "You have got to be kiddin' me."

I looked at the woman. "Who are you?"

"Me? Oh, my name's Kristine. N-nice to meet you, s-sir."

She nervously stretched her hand out and I smiled under my helmet. Gently, I took her hand and shook it.

"Nice to meet you, too. Mind if I ask what that camera's doing on your shoulder?"

"Hm? Oh, this? This is a Audiovisual Bidirectional Communication Probe. Yeah, quite the mouth-full. It allows AIs that reside in the internet to interact with the real world. It can be mounted to walls and such, like how they've been all around the house. Also, with the right conditions and connections, people can also use these."

I crossed my arms. "Isn't that a potential threat to privacy?"

Kristine shook her head. "No, it isn't. There are a lot of obstacles you have to pass before being able to use one of these. Typically, patients with potentially fatal cases use them, like Aaron's sister, Wish."

I nodded, then ran a systems diagnostics. My suit checked out green and I took it. Kristine and I continued to talk for a while before a voice came from the probe.

"Kristine! W-"

I didn't pay attention to the rest. My hand was already gripping my MA5D as I turned to face the contact. My motion tracker pinged again and showed six foes to my left. As soon as my MA5D snapped up to face the door, the contacts froze and vanished from my tracker.

Even though they were humans, my aim didn't waiver. Instead, I spoke strong and true. "Stand down!"

The intruders shifted their aim from Kristine to me. One of them spoke up. "Hey! Nice costume, nerd!"

Another grunted. "Shut up. All troops, open fire!"

The six of them began to shoot at me and I activated my shields in response. The metal bullets slammed into the protective energy curtain as I took a step back, staggered. They stopped firing to take aim at Kristine.

"End of th-"

He never got to finish.

I let out a hail of bullets from my rifle, taking out the hostiles with unrivaled accuracy and efficiency. With a deft motion, I reloaded my gun. Kristine simply looked at me, stunned.

"Energy shield. An added layer between me and potentially harmful projectiles."

She nervously laughed, then vanished upstairs. I sat down against a wall and laid my rifle next to me, turning off my visor in the process, leaving me in the dark. But, as a precautionary action, I kept my motion tracker online. My thoughts began to drift.

How am I going to return to the UNSC and finish the fight with Cortana? They need me, badly. Is there a Guardian on this Earth, and if so, where? Or is it on this world's moon? Questions questions questions....

Eventually, I drifted to sleep, my mind replaying all that's happened to me.

Okay! Another chapter done!

How do you like the cross-over?

A bit too random?

Sorry if that's the case. But don't worry, Chief'll get back to the UNSC one way or another. However, before that happens, he's got to protect this new planet that he's landed on!

Byeee~~~!
