We Began With a Coin

Between our index and thumb, we pinch tightly, eagerly at a shiny gold token we call our heart.
We're naive, intent on spending that coin to fuel our joy as we wander through the market we call life.

Some of us spend for pleasure, happiness, greed; Its easy! You sell your heart for something you want to love.
Sometimes, your purchase flourishes without a dull moment, and we're content-- in love.
Other times we're happy for only a moment, until the purchase breaks, is lost, or fails to keep your interest, and we always find ourselves hungry for something else, or rather, more.

Some of us invest that coin. We trust our gold to a stock in hopes ot will yield more than that shiny little cent.
Sometimes, you'll watch in pride as you earn the interest of others, recieve more than a heart back until you're standing on a mountain, bathed in your embellished, self-made glory.
Other times, everything crashes. Crumbles. You lose all that we had and you're left with nothing but that empty space between your fingers, leaving you with nothing else to offer.

And we all started as a naive little child, clutching a shiny golden token we call our heart.
