Midnight Drive

I took that Midnight Drive,
Hoping to drive out the midnight.

I could feel it all with my window down,
The thorough air between the clasps of my fingers, the quiet in the spaces beside my eyes.

Just driving, driving evermore with dim lights prancing through familiar darkness.
Away from happy endings, away from bad endings.

Freedom from it all; of my home, of my heart, my unexplainable habit to crave isolation, connection, identity.

The feeling of driving with only the hum of an engine to sing back to me. Driving with the 4am atmosphere digging into the coldness and prying open these tumors left behind.

Death can't beat serenity,
Yet why is tranquillity so obscure to come by. Why is haven moonlight and a car?

So I take that Midnight Drive,
Hoping to drive out the midnight.
