Maxon

It was 3:00 AM. America, Lucy, Carter and I have been working constantly for the past 24 hours to try and find a way to get Aspen and Marlee back. So far our best idea was to find the trader, but that required another plan, which we didn't have.

Because I've been trained all my life to be the future king, I'm used to sleepless nights of wracking my brain, but the rest of my company clearly are not. America is holding up better than the rest of them but I can tell she is going to crack soon.

"Maybe we should all get some rest," I suggest. "It's clear we are getting nowhere tonight and I think that sleep would do everyone some good."

"How am I supposed to sleep when all I can think about is Marlee?" Carter asks.

"Yes," Lucy pipes in. "Aspen is constantly on my mind. And it's so hard to sleep in an empty bed at night." Lucy is just too pure.

"Just know that I am not going to let anything happen to them," I promise. "And I completely understand what you are going through. I don't have any suggestions other than to trust that god will do the right thing and return them to us."

America nodded along with my statements agreeing with me. I knew how much Marlee and Aspen meant to her and that she was equally as scared and paranoid as Carter and Lucy.

"Don't worry," she says. "I know we will find them. When I was being held, I never, not once, doubted that Maxon would save me. And he did. Please don't doubt us or yourselves now."

"Thank you Queen America," Lucy responds. "I know you are doing everything you can."

Once Lucy and Carter leave America looks back and me with eyes that had turned from icy blue to night sky blue. Terror threatened to overflow from her eyes and take her hole body prisoner. Although I was scared as well, I knew her feelings were more intense.

"Maxon," She begins with her lip trembling. "What if we can't find them. What if they...they..wha-"

"My dear," I say reassuringly. "I promise you I will find them. Have the same kind of faith in me now as you had in the hands of the rebels. Nothing is going to happen to them."

She finally starts to believe me and the terror from her eyes starts to melt away and be replaced with that icy blue color I love so much.

I awake to the sound of America puking. This is the second day in a row she has thrown up in the morning. I insist that she sees a doctor but being her stubborn self, she doesn't allow this to happen.

"Maxon," she tells me. "Right now we can't focus on me, we have to focus on Aspen and Marlee and getting them out. And I think I might just have an idea."

My face brightens immediately.

"Really?! What?"

"Call up Lucy and Carter and I'll tell everyone together."

Once Lucy and Carter arrive I can't take the suspense anymore.

"Tell us woman!" I half yell half beg.

"Alright, alright! Calm down," she chuckles a little. I've missed that laugh. "Ok so it kinda came to me in a dream. I don't really remember what was going on but I do remember one phrase being repeated over and over again. I kept hearing the words 'you're lying! You're lying!' So what if we make or use a lie detector? We can call every possible suspect into a room and not tell them what it's about and then ask them questions. Once we know who it is, we can go from there."

I smile up at her. She's a genius. We all agree that that's a fabulous plan and get to work on the lie detector.

How did I manage to find such and amazing women?

And how did I manage to make her fall for me?
