Now I just have to tell my parents. I know they are going to be one hundred percent against it, but I am going to have to find a way to convince them to let me go. When I got home, I went to the kitchen and saw my parents sitting at the table talking to people from work that was obviously important. I decided to wait till their done to talk to them about the our hopefully soon to be trip. Around two hours later, my parents were wrapping up they're business meeting and saying their goodbyes.
I went downstairs and said "mother, father I need to talk to you about something."
"What is it honey?" my mom asked.
"Some of my friends and I were wanting to go hike the Appalachian Trail this summer as a last adventure before leaving for college."
"Absolutely not" my dad said.
"Why not?"
"One it's very dangerous and two you have never spent a day in the wilderness. You won't survive a second without you're phone, shelter or you're bed." My mother said.
"I am going with my friends who have spent nights in tents and sometimes we will be spending the night in a hotel." I said trying to persuade them.
"What do you mean you'll be spending some nights in a hotel?" asked my dad.
"Certain parts of the trail go through small towns that have hotels" I said.
"That makes me feel a little better. Your mother and I will talk about it, but we are making no promises. You have to understand that you are only eighteen and you're too young to die."
"Thank you" I said then left and went back upstairs.
I texted my friends telling them that my parents are thinking about letting me go on the trip. Everyone else's parents all agreed to let them go. They told me that they only have enough to go round trip, so we made a plan to hike the trail one way then get plane tickets and fly back home. After we all agreed on the plan, I did some research and read that it will take around three to four months to complete the Appalachian Trail one way. The cost to go on the trail will be a lot, so we will have to use our money wisely.
The next morning I went downstairs and saw my parents talking with each other and it looked serious.
When they were done talking they came up to me and my father said "your mother and I have decided to let you go on the trip with your friends this summer."
I instantly grew with excitement!
I jumped up and hugged my parents saying "thank you, thank you, thank you!"
When I got to school I told everyone that I was able to go on the trip. We talked more about the trip and what we needed. After tons of planning and research, we decided to go the store this weekend and get gear and other things for the trip.
