Having your character overly energized in a bad, weird, or awkward situation isn't something you should do. For one, it's quite annoying and unexpected, if it's a sad moment i'm not saying they should be bawling their eyes out but at least showing some sympathy. And it's also odd when people have the character happy again after like 1 hour of them being sad over some other characters death they should probably linger just a little or give a good reason as to why they aren't sad anymore.
Giving a character a cookie is not supposed to immediately make them bounce back from their friends corpse.
