Grey's alarm woke him suddenly. He rubbed his eyes and climbed out of bed. Looking around his room, he was reminded of his painfully mundane life. However, he looked at the deck of cards, his mind went back to the previous day. He was a psychic duelist. Whatever that meant.

It was the weekend. He would get a break from school for a while, freeing him up for training, though it was more teaching.

YESTERDAY -

"You want me to teach you about the summoning methods?"

"Yes," replied Magenta. She continued to bow to him, making Grey uncomfortable.

"Please stop that."

Magenta strained up, locking eyes with him.

"Please, your knowledge of dueling surpasses that of Tribe Sages! If I could learn just one of those techniques you spoke of-"

"But you don't need me to teach you. Just look up it online or in a manual."

"On... line?"

"Yeah. You... know what the internet is, right?"

"No, I do not."

Grey looked at her. She was definitely as strange one.

"Where are you from?"

"I was born in the Duel Zone. My mother was from the Spell Tribe and my father was from the Dragon Tribe."

"I don't... know what any of that means."

"That is understandable. You are new. It would be best-"

"Why don't you just start from the beginning?"

"Perhaps that would be best."

Magenta sat down on the grass, crossing her legs. Guess it was story time. Grey sat down and prepared to listen.

"Long ago, a star in a separate universe died and released a mass of magical energy. That energy provided a certain number of individuals with the ability to create real monsters. However, there were not able to contain the monsters, so the put them into cards. This allowed them to use them in battle and control them. The game was soon developed into provide a bit more order to the battles.

"Eventually more stars collapsed and more energy was released. Some of the energy even reached out into other worlds, including this one. This dimension was one of the better places since you already had the game to start with. But, due to the general lack of magic in this reality, those with powers rarely know they have it."

"But why do you not have the different types of monsters?"

"Our Tribe Sages do not allow for a lot of travel between the dimensions. I'm willing to guess that word of the new types of summoning never reached the Sages back home."

"Who are the Sages? What are these tribes?"

"The first psychic duelists formed tribes based on duel styles. They took in those duelists who dueled similarly. There are currently five tribes. The Dragon Tribe, dealing with the problems and battling heroically. The Spell Tribe, using Spells and advanced tactics to battle. The Spirit Tribe, who don't usually duel, but rather improve on the game. The Warrior Tribe. They explore the multiverse and search for new psychic duelists. Finally, the Rouge Tribe. They aren't very reliable and are prone to pointless fighting. The Fiend is one of their stronger battlers."

"That was that other guy."

"Word will soon spread to the clans of your existence. I need your help to become stronger."
