Chapter 2 young adults: The hunt is on

Fuli leans down to the ground and breathes in deeply as the strong winds fly through her fur. The smell of wildebeest floods her nose.

"The wildebeest herd is not far from here." Fuli announces and looks to her sides.

Next to her stood Kiara, Zuri and Vitani. Over the years, the four have managed to get along and become good friends.

"At least it's not gazelle." Says Zuri examining her claws.

Apart from growing taller, she had not changed a bit.

"What is it with you and gazelle?" Snaps Vitani.

(We all know how she turned out. Just like in the movie.)

"Hyena food." Answers the prissy lioness.

Vitani groans and rolls her eyes. She and Zuri had never been particularly close and they would always annoy each other about looks and food.

"Let's not get into an argument girls." Warns Kiara.

Kiara has grown into a fully grown adult just like the others. Fuli may be the youngest of the group but she is also an adult and one of the Prideland's best and fiercest hunters.

"Do we all know the plan?" Asks Kiara.

The others nod.

"Let's move my lovely huntresses!" Instructs Zuri.

"We are not calling ourselves that!" Snaps Vitani.

"Why so gruff, fun killer?"

Fuli and Kiara couldn't help but laugh at this. They walk up a little hill and see the herd in the distance. The strong gust of wind hits Fuli and Kiara's face.

"Nothing better than a good hunt." Fuli sighs.

"Let's get this hunt started. Which is our target?" Asks Kiara.

By now, Vitani and Zuri had joined Kiara and Fuli.

"What about that old one over there?" Suggests Vitani.

"Do you seriously want to eat outdated prey and get food poisoning?" Snaps Zuri. "Why not the little one?"

Kiara nudges the lioness. "You know the hunting laws, Zuri. We cannot hunt the young. It will unbalance the-"

"Circle of life yada yada yada. I know." Yawns Zuri.

"So nothing young, nothing old, what about that one?" Asks Kiara pointing to a middle aged male wildebeest.

"Nice." Replies Vitani.

"I approve." Agrees Zuri.

"I know you guys are good hunters but are you really up for a challenge?" Asks Fuli.

"That's that supposed to mean?" Snaps Zuri.

"We are looking at a middle aged, healthy, strong, male, wildebeest! We have been on many hunts before but you haven't caught prey as big, as hard, as dangerous as wildebeest. I may be fast but it's gonna take more than speed, strength and the four of us to take that guy down." Explains Fuli.

"She has a point you guys." Replies Kiara.

"Very well." Says Zuri.

"Which one do you think we should target, Fuli?" Asks Vitani.

Fuli looks at the herd and analysis all of the worthy targets. Finally, she laid eyes on a middle aged male with a bad hoof.

"That one." She answers.

"Nice. Let's move." Replies Kiara.

The four huntresses spread out and take positions. Fuli the chaser, Zuri the navigator and Kiara and Vitani the catchers. Fuli takes a deep breath and locks onto her target. She digs her claws into the dirt and slowly creeps up on the wildebeest. Closer and closer until the prey was only pouncing distance away.
