The Beginning:

Hangover

James Norrington sat alone at a small table in some tavern, slumped face-down over the tabletop with his head in his hands. He looked awful.  (&/but) He felt worse.

He should be dead,

&(/but) he wasn't.

& there was a song stuck in his head, & it would not go away...

"Somewhere beyond the sea,

Love is waiting for me,

My true love stands on golden sands,

And watches the ships that go sailing... "

(he was in) Tortuga.

he'd woken up on a beach, with no memory of how he'd gotten there;

with that song in his head.

he'd wandered into the town,

(discovered where he was,) & since then he had usually been either drunk or hungover,

often both.

right now he had one hell of a headache,

& still that bloody-God's-cursed-&-damned song would not go away,

no matter what he did...

"Out there, beyond the sea,

She's there waiting for me.

If I could fly like a bird on high,

Then straight to her arms I'd go soaring"

he'd been on the ship; with Elizabeth & that creature.

Elizabeth had escaped, & he'd stayed behind to safeguard her exit.

he'd fought "bootstrap" bill turner, & that thing, & he had died.

or he should have died.

he remembered the fight.

he remembered being stabbed, he remembered the feeling of the blade going into his guts.

he remembered the feeling of it coming out.

he even remembered the conversation with that creature.

he remembered the fading, falling feeling as his consciousness ebbed away...

"It's far beyond the stars,

It's near beyond the moon.

I know beyond a doubt,

(That) my heart will lead me there soon"

then he'd woken up on that beach,

with no idea of where he was,

& no idea of how he'd gotten there.

...& that song was still in his head, running endlessly

"We'll stand upon the shore,

(there on the shore)

We'll kiss just as before.

With my true love I'll stand on (those) golden sands,

& then no more will I go sailing."

....

"Together we'll be, beyond the sea,

(& then no more will I go sailing)

Happy we'll be, beyond the sea...

...& then no more will I go sailing..."

over, & over, & over again.

[time since his death?]

[song again around & round....]
