Whatever you say, Shadowhunter thought as she looked Ze up and down again. “Well I’m Shadowhunter, and this here’s Nightscale,” she said as she pointed a wing at him, her fading star scales catching the sunlight. “Now what’d you mean by help us?”
“Easy enough, I help you out with this mystery I heard y’all talking about and you help me. Maybe find me a show or two? Or give me good trading materials, something,” she explained. A show? Shadow wondered, going through her brain to see if she maybe remembered Zebra, but she would’ve known if she did. Seeing Shadow’s confusion, Ze explained. “I’m a singer, not the most famous but still a singer,” Ze shrugged and pulled her tail out of the pale sand, swishing it over the sand, blowing some in the breeze. Nightscale glanced at Shadow and she knew exactly what the look meant. She sighed and turned to Ze.
“We’ll help, it’s the right thing to do at this point,” she said. Ze grinned and hugged Shadow, who giggled and hugged back. “I have a sliight feeling we’re going to be good friends,” Shadow grinned.
“Me too. This Is going to be awesome!” Ze said happily, pulling away and shaking off her striped wings. The SandWing glanced at Nightscale, and he just seemed slightly nervous. “You alright?” Ze asked, and you could tell she was concerned.
“yeah, I’m fine. Just thinking, that’s all..” Nightscale trailed off. At this point, he was sitting up and out of the sand, his tail curled near him as if he was still nervous, but it also seemed he was lost in thought. Shadowhunter walked over, gently placing a dark purple wing over his pitch black back, sitting down next to him and gently resting her tail over his. She smiled gently at him and she could tell a smile was trying to poke through.
“You sure you’re alright?” Shadow asked softly, concern clear in her voice. Nightscale sighed and looked at her.
“Just thinking but I’ll be okay…” he said, a bit slow for her liking.
“So long as you say so. If you need to talk, let me know alright?” Shadow didn’t know why, but she really hated seeing Nightscale so upset like this. His wings drooped and his eyes didn’t have that same sparkle that they had before. He nodded and stood as Ze walked back over. She had left to give them a little space but she was coming back now that they seemed to be done.
“So, what’d we know so far?” Ze asked.
“So what we know is that both me and Nightscale are special for some reason, and we think it has to do with my friend Mindfull. It can be complicated to explain, but let's just say she doesn't see us the same as others,” Shadow said in a slight rush. She was technically correct on the last part, considering she didn’t want to tell Zebra outright. “We have no idea why, and we know the following of what it’s not. It’s not because we’re hybrids,” Ze just looked at her, as if the SandWing wanted her to continue. “That’s about all we know for now,” Shadow said honestly.
“Okay, but explain one thing for me. How exactly does she not see you the same? I’ve heard of this Mindfull before, she’s the one with the odd powers right? NightWing?” Zebra questioned. Of course she knows Mindfull, at this rate all of Pyrrhia knows her… Shadow thought to herself.
“That’s her alright. Well,” Shadow started. “How it normally works when she ‘views’ is whatever personality the dragon has, she takes that and it becomes her temporary personality. Yet with me and Nightscale, this doesn't happen. Even Mindfull herself doesn't know why.” Shadow explained.
“The bracelet was enchanted, correct? I mean the one she uses for her power. Who says whoever enchanted it didn’t add something in?” Ze pointed out. For reasons unknown to Shadow and Nightscale, Zebra almost looked nervous when talking about really any enchantments in general. Little did Shadowhunter or Zebra know, Ze’s choice of words was well...a big mistake.
“Don’t say that,” Nightscale said, and from what Shadow could see it looked like he was about to freak out. “Just...don’t,” he slowly dropped down and curled up, whispering things to himself to try and calm himself down.
“Nightscale!” Shadow said worriedly, going next to him and trying to find the best way to calm him down. “Hey...it’ll be ok.” She reassured him, having feeling something in that sentence was a trigger.
“All my fault.. It was my fault…” Nightscale muttered to himself, but she could tell he was slowly coming out of it. Shadow gave him a comforting hug, gently rubbing a wing up and down his back.
“Shhhh,” she whispered, trying to calm him down. “Just breathe, in and out. That’s it,” she nodded as he started to take calming breaths. After around ten minutes of this, he finally calmed down.
“Thanks...it’s just that word…” Nightscale said, trying not to think about it.
“I won’t ask why, but any hints on the word so I don’t say it on accident?” Shadow asked softly, not wanting to invade something clearly personal to much.
“E, it starts with e,” was all he said about it before Shadow understood. Wait..he’s an amnius? That can’t be a reason for the viewing thing though, I’m 100% sure I’m not an amnius Shadow thought.
“Oooh,” She said aloud, meanwhile her mind was racing. How did Mindfull even meet him? She would have told me about someone so unique...right? Now Shadow was even more confused. She shook it off and stood up, shaking her wings off awkwardly. Nightscale got up as well while Ze looked at the two. She seemed apologetic, feeling bad for messing up even if she didn't know.
“Sorry about that,” Ze said, sincerity clearly heard in her voice. “But anyways, do we know if whoever made the bracelet adding anything to what it was supposed to be?” She asked, clearly now trying to avoid anything else so they could get going.
“It’s always possible, that’s actually what I was thinking,” Shadow said honestly. “I have no idea who made it, and Mindfull never told me. I think she may have said something about an IceWing? Not too sure…” she shrugged, but it was almost clear Nightscale had figured something out.
“That’s it, that’s what’s fake!” he said as he hurriedly grabbed Shadow’s half of the prophecy. “This ‘sun’ stuff, it’s not a SandWing at all!”°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
