Chapter 2: Trees, Lots of Trees

Nightscale's PoV

Nothing much had really happened on the rest of the trip, it was mostly flying and silence. That one night though, the first one before they set off. Nightscale kept replaying the events in his head and how nice it felt to be able to hold her close while she slept. Just give her time… once she knows you can say what you've been feeling.. he thought. They had just landed again outside the rainforest, and Shadow gave a small sigh. “You ready to go find Mindfull?” Nightscale asked her and she gave a tiny nod.
 
“Let's hope she gives us the answers we need..” Shadow trailed off, glancing up in the trees, flashing her scales brightly and taking off again, going to the treetops with Nightscale not far behind. “Come on, this way!” she called behind her as she suddenly landed on a platform in the trees. “She should be here soon, it's about sun time,” Shadow’s wing pointed to a few RainWings already fast asleep, their scales swirling and spiraling with many colors. They're cool but not as pretty as her scales, the way they stand out against her darker scales.. Nightscale thought to himself as Shadow’s scales went  through a gentle pale rainbow. Suddenly he heard a rustling and soft taken talonsteps on the platform.
 
“Shadowhunter!!” someone squealed as he saw a blur of purple go by, hugging the hybrid who sat up and hugged her back. “Wait, if you’re here then..” she turned, her thin silver bracelet on her right arm shining in the sun and standing out against her deep scales. “Ah, Nightscale, hello there,” she smiled, meanwhile Shadow’s scales calmed down from just moments before where they were shot through with electric yellows.
 
“Nightscale, this is Mindfull. You clearly know him already Mindfull so no need for intros there,” Shadow said, moving over to be next to Nightscale again.

 “What I really want to know is..why are you both here? Shouldn't you be out stopping Frostflower?” Mindfull asked them, confused at their sudden appearance.
 
“Weeeell,” Shadow started. “We did see her but she told us to come to you for answers to our questions. I’ll start off by asking this, why us Mindfull? I barely even knew Nightscale before,” and now you're debating if you love me or not, oh how things change.
 
“How they change indeed Nightscale, but I chose you both for reasons I can't say until I know it's safe, but it had to be you two to help out with this.” Nightscale blinked, forgetting she was also a mind reader, but also slightly annoyed she snooped. First off, try not to snoop all super personal on me, and second nod if you know um, my feelings here he looked up to see her nod and he held back a light blush. “Nightscale I know everything about you, everything” Mindfull chuckled as his eyes went slightly wide.
 
“Everything?” he asked in slight disbelief. There goes the not snooping to deep...
 
“I wouldn't doubt it,” Shadow said. “Why, you hiding anything from me?” she looked up at him with a slight smirk on her face. Mindfull chuckled and for now Shadow let it go.
 
“But anyway, what answers do you want? Some things i really can't say now, like why I chose you both,” Mindfull explained.
 
“Pleeeease? Mindfull how are we supposed to do anything if we don't know why?”
 
“Just trust me that you can't, oh and can I talk to you for a bit alone Shadow?” Shadow nodded and walked off with her as they vanished below, and Nightscale could just see them sitting in an tree. He just sat, looking at the RainWings around him as he waited for them to be done.
