Young Black Boy
The world is a cruel place, laced with sadness and callous madness
So don't be surprised when you see Racism for the first time
It was always here
It sailed on ships and was etched with whips on ripped skin and shattered bones
Stitched on hips with blood spilled by those killed in cotton fields
America wants to be great again
Soon you will realize that history has been scrubbed clean of all the horrific things Black Kings like you have suffered through
So always remember where you came from
Young Black Boy
The world is a cruel place, filled with monsters that will try to break you the way they tried your ancestors
Black won't crack
But it will bleed every reason why the chains on your wrists made even the strongest Kings scream
Seize and search could end in a hearse today
So pray for a safe arrest and not a cold bullet pressed in your chest like the rest of the boys dressed just like you
They had dreams too
So remember to cherish every day God blesses you with breath and not the anguish that comes with your death
Young Black Boy
The world is a cruel place, but always stay hopeful
Remember that your sun-kissed skin was designed to complement your divine mind and unshakable drive
You can be anything you want to be
And those that say otherwise only spread lies to witness your demise
It's true
Our people are dying
But your laughter is our best medicine so keep smiling so Black Warriors can keep fighting for you
So Black Mothers can keep trying for you
So Black Poets can keep writing for you
