[ 1st person, amy's p.o.v ]
running this part of the precinct is tough, but so rewarding. they're all starting to respect me more and more everyday. sure, it's difficult, especially being a woman. but they're finally starting to see me as a superior.
"ames!"
i turn around and watch as jake stumbles over to me, grinning stupidly. usually, i find it kind of difficult having jake in here. i love him, but i'm worried people will see me as... weak. but i can tell he needs to say something.
"hey jake! what do you need?"
"i just came back from the bank, and guess who i saw..."
"doug judy!" we both say in unison. he seems confused and i laugh.
"he came by the precinct just after you left."
"ahh, so he did come to the office!! anyway... i have something to ask you later, but i just wanted to say i think i've made a mistake. i rejected his help. i didn't think we'd need it and there's no time for playing around."
i feel my face turn into one of pure confusion. wow, that's surprising that he said no.
"do you need my help finding him?"
jake sighs and nods slightly, saying:
"i thought this would be an easy case but i haven't found any leads so far. i know it's only been a day but... i have a bad feeling."
i nod and smile at my husband, before kissing him reassuringly. he holds my hips and tries to deepen the kiss, but i won't let him do that at work. i pull away quickly, leaving jake frowning and grasping at the air like a young baby. laughing, i walk away and say:
"see you tonight!"

pulling my keys out of my bag, i hear a sudden bang, and what sounds like hundreds of pans falling onto the floor from the other side of our apartment door. i slowly unlock and open the door before peering inside, making sure i wasn't being robbed.
"oh, hey ames! you're home early..."
jake is standing in our kitchen, covered in flour and egg. he seems to have opened a cupboard and tried to pull something out, as there were pans all over the floor. as my gaze shifts between the pans to him, he suddenly smiles goofily, knowing he is in the wrong. i think jake expected me to get annoyed, but i've been frustrated all day at work and i'm not ready to do this at home too... so instead, i laugh. but not just a chuckle, a full belly laugh that causes me to drop my bag to the floor and hold onto the wall to stabilise my weakening legs.
"y-you never m-make dinner??"
i manage to stutter out in between giggles. jakes expression turns from one of confusion (and slight fear) to one of happiness.
"yes, well, wifey. i decided to make you dinner. i knew your shift finished later than mine so i took the liberty of making dinner for you."
"cool cool cool cool but uh, where is it??"
jakes hand reaches up to uneasily scratch the back of his neck.
"i, um, haven't made it yet?"
my laughter erupts again, causing him to join in.
"pizza then?"
"deal"

as jake walked off to go shower, i called the local pizza place and ordered our food. after i was done, i turned around and saw jake walking towards me, suspiciously quickly.
"did you shower? that was unbelievably fast"
"i mean, i got changed and washed my face?"
knowing that's the closest i could probably get jake to showering, i ushered him towards the couch as we began to look for a movie to watch. his arm slides around my waist as i scroll past Die Hard. i automatically pause, knowing he will most likely scream and say that's what we should watch. yet oddly, he didn't say anything. i look over strangely at him , and he gives me a goofy yet somewhat nervous smile back. sighing, he moves his arm that was around my back and uses it to hold my hand. he turns me slightly, until we are both facing each other on the couch.
this is odd but... nice?
"ames, i uh. i have to ask you about something but i feel like i might be... might be moving too fast."
my ears immediately perk up at his words. wait... is he thinking what i'm thinking??
"i love you so so much ames and i can't think of anyone else to raise a family with so... would you want to have a kid? i'm not meaning now!! just, whenever your ready."
just as i was about to answer, i open the door and grab the pizza boxes, paying the woman that handed it over. as i begin to walk back, i feel a devilish smile creep onto my face.
oh god, jakes face is priceless. as mean as that sounds, it's not very often you see jake peralta genuinely afraid and vulnerable. i sit back in the couch and slowly open the pizza box, turning it around to him. in little crusts, it spelt out the word 'yes' on top of the actual pizza.
damn, wish i had a camera right now.
"h-how, how did you know i was going to ask you?"
"easy. i planted the idea in your head a while ago. also, i'm pretty sure i mentioned kids at least 200 times since we started dating... i could just tell. you never make dinner unless there's something you need to tell me."
jake is beaming, with tears brimming over his eyes he attempts to hold them back. landing on a weird sniffle instead. suddenly, jake leaps forward and tackles me in a hug before whispering quietly into my ear
"i could - i could be a dad someday"
