[ the rest are all gonna be first perspective with jake most likely so yahhhh enjoy! ]
we've been at the precinct for almost 6 hours since we left the hospital. it's about 10pm and a lot of the detectives are starting to get tired or miss home. terry still hasn't come back yet and everyone's getting worried. what if he was taken too? terry's a pretty big guy but if they somehow got to ava....
amy and i in particular have been solving the possible puzzle left behind. charles is surveying the security footage and checking for faces or any clues, and captain holt is checking all the witness claims and statements, trying to piece together a story. charles left to go home a few hours ago, nikolaj wanted to be tucked in and he left immediately.
"hey guys. sorry i'm late, let me help."
so caught up in my work, i didn't even hear terry enter.
"how's my goddaughter, terry??"
i stand and turn to face him, once again forgetting how intimidating he can look even whilst vulnerable.
"not great. the doctor said that she might have retinoblastoma."
"oh god terry that uh, that's awful..."
i reply with genuine concern, knowing that it was obviously something bad amy looks over at me quizzically and asked me:
"well what is it jake? inform the rest of us..."
i freeze in my spot. damn amy knows me too well. i have no clue what it is. terry chuckles softly, but seemingly painfully.
"don't worry jake i'll tell you. it's a uh, a cancerous tumour that grows in the retina. which is like a thing in the eye. the eye is a part of the body that allows-"
"yes i know what an eye is terry."
i grumble, clearly annoyed.
"anyway, the doctor says that she needs to be tested to see if it has spread anywhere. but after that, he thinks she might need to have chemo. it's already quite bad and through research, sharon and i are worried she might need a prosthetic eye."
terry eventually slumps into his chair after this.
"but she'll survive?"
amy pipes in, clearly worried for poor little ava.
"yeah. she may lose an eye but almost every kid survives and she's got a good chance. maybe i should be focussing more on that."
terry suddenly realised that everyone was paying attention to him - he's not a fan of that.
"alright, someone give me something to do! come on, let's save rosa guys!"
he rushes into holts office before closing the door behind him. lucky enough, the windows didn't shatter this time. amy looks over at me with a sad expression, before powering onto the puzzle again.
"hey ames, i think we are looking at this wrong."
"how so?"
amy asks curiously, she taps her pencil lightly against her notepad. it's a nervous habit she's developed over time and it's getting worse lately.
"well, look at this. i forgot about the case i was initially working on with rosa, when i realised, what if it was all a setup? i mean, the car accident happened after the bank robbery so it might've been staged while we were there. and the car accident..."
"might not have been a car accident!"
amy butts in, her pencil tapping finally coming to an end. i chuckle and continue my hypothesis.
"rosa did think it was odd as alicia is an exceptional driver, but of course she was upset by the whole thing to even wonder why it happened."
"yeah... and so if the car accident was staged, why don't we go so far as to say that the bank robbery could have been too?"
i scratch my chin quizzically, replying:
"what do you mean?"
"well think about it. there were no leads to this mysterious case that should have been rather straightforward. the gun looked planted, it was too obvious for this to have been a difficult case. plus, i believe they wanted us out of the precinct. sure, there were some people here but you and rosa were the only two detectives that would have noticed something happening."
"and the only two detectives that were still here that day were..."
"HITCHCOCK AND SCULLY!!"
we both yell, quickly strolling over to the inseperable pair to interrogate them. just as amy pulled out her notepad to take questions and i tried to remove scully's pillow to wake him up, captain holt strolled out of the office.
"everyone, i believe i have found a lead."
amy and i both look quizzically at each other, wondering if he had a lead that helped backup our own theory.
"the witnesses claimed to have seen these men enter as doctors for many days beforehand. one of the nurses, claimed that it must have been an inside job as several of them had worked here for years. this must be a big plan for them to give up their entire careers however... so be prepared for anything. the doctors were all extremely close, with the exception of one. one of the doctors was a friend, but not a part of the murders or kidnapping. his name, was jack smith"
despite the circumstances, i snicker at the odd name and its likeness to 'blacksmith' before being glared at by everyone. i really need to read situations better.
"captain holt, amy and i found something too."
we delve into our findings and explain everything to the people here. captain holt even nods slightly!
"alright. good work santiago and peralta... well everyone, i believe we have a lead."
