Forgotten [Sonnet]

There was a girl who sang aloud in rain

As salt rolled down to join with water cold

Her arms and legs wrapped up in heavy chains

Whose eyes grew hard and dark as days grew old.

Love had left her long ago to herself

To perish all alone in tower high

Its walls were full of empty hope on shelves

He loved her yet he only told a lie.

She'll learn the truth someday and separate

Her heart and mind so she can live her life.

But who could know if hope might come to late

And leave her on her own with only strife.

The shadows around her may never fade

But light shines through most darkness and all shade
