Coronation Day (ZuMai)

As Zuko was crowned the new Fire lord I saw for once in a long time peace amongst the fire nation.

I couldn't help but wonder who the queen would be; Every Fire Lord needs a queen.

The crowd cheered and people smiled. It was the best thing ever.

I couldn't help but stare as he descended the balcony. Maybe today is my day. Who knows.

"Fire Lord Zuko, we should discuss the future of the Fire Nation." One of my advisors asked me after I finished talking to the fire nation.

"Like what?" I asked.

"You need a queen, someone to raise an Heir to the throne for when you die."

"This all a bit sudden. I'm not sure I'm ready to get married."

"You need to. The whole fire nation depends on it."

With that he walked off. What was I supposed to do? Ask Mai to marry me?

That would be too soon. We barely just got back together again.

"You looked troubled Nephew."

"It's just I was told I need to marry someone for the fire nation. What should I do uncle?"

"I know it must be hard for you, considering you are the youngest person to ever take the thrown. Just follow your heart. It won't fail you."

"But what if it does? What if I make a fool of myself?"

"Trust your heart." He said walking away.

What am I going to do? My heart wants Mai but what if she doesn't want me?

"Zuko!" I heard across the hall.

"Mai!" I said in response.

"I so sorry, I forgot. Fire Lord Zuko."

"It's ok, you don't have to call me that."

"I kinda do. It's not like I am married to you or something."

The way she said that. It's almost like she wants to marry me. But, I don't know.

I just wish he would ask me to marry him. What's stopping him? We've been together for a long time.

"So how are you Fire Lord Zuko?"

"I told you, you don't have to call me that." He said leaning in for a kiss.

"What are you going to do about?"

"What will it take?"

"Who's the queen?"

"I don't have a wife yet..."

"Good then we can go out tonight. You know where to find me."

I turned and ran off. I hope he will catch on.

As I left I considered all possibilities. Like why did she tell on so short notice? Why Today? A million reasons floated around my head. One being she wanted to marry me.

"That's ridiculous." I said walking through the moonlit garden.

"What's ridiculous?" I she asked leaning against a tree.

"Nothing just thinking about random stuff."

"Random? Like what?"

"You mainly."

"What about me?"

"Oh it's silly."

"Nothings too silly. Come on tell me."

I froze unsure what to tell her. I can't tell her I was thinking about marrying her. But just then an idea popped into my head.

"Mai, I just realised I forgot something. I'll be right back." I said running across the Garden.

It seemed like forever before he finally returned. But whatever it is I'm sure it's important.

I could see him running across the garden, coming back to where I told him to meet.

"Sorry about that. I was just thinking about the future of the fire nation and who would be by my side and I thought about you."

I couldn't believe it. Zuko was actually going to ask me to marry him. I smiled as I waited for the words to come out his mouth, so I could say yes.

"What I'm trying to say Mai, is, Will you be my queen?"

I didn't have to think twice I knew the second I had met Zuko that I wanted to be his wife.

"Yes. I have always wanted this. You and me. Forever."
