the rest watched as jani rushed out the door, equally confused as the next. words that they had been exchanging suddenly caught in their throats. it wasn't many, but it was some. their ramen had been barely touched, no one feeling the least bit of hungry now that there were two problems that had to be dealt with. it felt wrong to enjoy anything when other people hadn't.

"i can't eat." jinyoung was the first to speak, siyong right at his side, his hand placed on the other's back trying to soothe him. "why is everything falling apart?" the male who usually was the strongest mind wise, broke down into tears, a short sob wrenching through his spine before his companion wrangled him into his arms and shushed him.

again, the others simply watched, even mrs. sina who's motherly instinct was to protect anyone who was hurt. however, she didn't possess any skill to be the mother she was before. she glared at the pots below her wishing they'd melt under her gaze, instead her vision blurred and she cleared her throat softly to not disturb anyone.

she thought she succeeded in hiding what she truly felt, another motherly instinct, but mark, the only person who wasn't completely involved in the world at the moment noticed the way her fingers clamped on to the pots, shaking like the bones had a mind of their own. his limbs had been moving the same way, he felt like he had no control in anything.

"mrs. sina, may i talk to you privately?" his voice was slow, careful as if it had been staggering on cracking ice. his lips trembled, sand colored locks sticking to skin, sweat being the adhesive.

the summoned woman quickly stopped her movements knowing mark was the culprit for calling her out. "you look sickly dear, please eat." her back hadn't flinched to even meet the young male's piercing irises, she would have liked to keep it that way. instead, she heard tentative footsteps coming toward her station, she clenched the counter tightly to counteract her heart ramming against her rip cage.

"ma'am, please," mark's voice was pleading, it went an octave higher, just like bam's. for a second, she thought she had been losing her mind. now, she was pretty sure she had. "i just need to know something." if it was in mark's hands, he would've made the call to the police right now, however the law stated that a person had to be missing for 24 hours. no one really knew if bam was here or not.

mrs. sina nodded, brown curls fully sweated out, drooping around her face, framing the wrinkles like children to a christmas tree.

luckily, everyone had been focused on staring at jinyoung who was slumped in siyong's chest, both looking completely out of it, or they were lost in their own raging minds.

the two trudged to bam's room, it just felt right to go there if they were talking about him. even if he wasn't physically here with them, mark felt as though his soul lived here and he deserved to hear what they had been speaking about.

"so what do you-"

"did bam and you ever have issues?"

the question had been weighing heavy on the younger's mind. when evaluating the choices to why bam would suddenly disappear, running away came up. of course mark didn't believe he would just up and leave his mom, his one family. unless he had confronted some type of conflict. bam was never one to share much about his family. the gang only ever knew about his deceased father who he had never known since he left this earth before bam was born, and his sister who had went to university in america. he'd often get questioned on why his sister went so far away but it'd be the same answer:

"thalia just wanted to live in america, that's all."

at this point, the blonde male began to question everything. even if some things lead to dead ends, he had no doubt there was more to the younger's life than some thai teenager, born in korea, with only his sister and mother. there had to be more.

mrs. sina's eyes lowered, and at a glance, she seemed to be thinking really hard. digging in every corner of her brain to find a reason she would make bam want to leave. "no, no, bam and i were just fine. i don't appreciate you coming into my home and trying to make me a convict. i'd appreciate it more if you'd leave."

the nerves in mark's arms twitched, his body taking on the temperature of ice at the tone of voice the older lady had used. he was used to the sweet, slightly tired voice but this one was teetering with venom.

"ma'am i'm not trying to-"

"mark, it's late, your mother is probably worried sick. please go home. i'm going to lay down, tell the kids i said be safe. get home quickly."

the pale boy obeyed quickly gathering his sanity before walking back out into the thick silence. the leftover gang followed mark's movements as he motioned quietly for them to come along with him. before leaving, they made sure to clean their messes, putting the bowls, which were thankfully plastic, in the garbage. they made it outside, the wind being less merciful and taking on a more aggressive approach.

"welp guys, goodnight, see ya tomorrow!" alex, who had been quiet for a majority of the tiny adventure waved off before breaking away from jackson who squeezed his shoulder slightly as a silent 'be safe.' the violet haired boy just gazed before stepping slowly to cross the street into an apartment complex.

the rest of the group had separated the same way, mark and youngjae being the last ones to part ways.

"i texted yugyeom, he said he was home. i told him to check on jani and he left me on read. i hope she's ok." youngjae quietly spoke, his sunshine like assets gone and replaced with cloudiness. "goodnight mark. get some rest." and with that he left, it seemed, as soon as he came, disappearing around the corner into a door.

mark had been pretty sure he would get scolded for being out late, but his curfew was at 10 pm. it was only 9:30 pm and he could easily just say he was studying with the gang at the library. he took one lingering stare at the convenience store across the street, the lights flickering ever so often, before stumbling into his home.
