Lily's POV

1 YEAR 3 MONTHS - 1978

It had been 3 months since I had received that letter from James. I haven't heard anything since then but I am so worried about what was going to happen when he returned home. He knew exactly where I was staying and could turn up at anytime of the day. I sighed and looked over at my daughter playing with her toys on the mat. Sirius was out getting some stuff that we needed. Originally, Delaney and I were going to go with him, but then it started raining and I decided that we needed to stay home. "Hey, babygirl." I said sitting on the floor beside her. "Ma! Ma!" She said, smiling at me. This kid did nothing but smile. It made my heart melt. "Here, hun." I passed her a cut up sandwich and watched as ate it, making sure she didn't choke. She was usually pretty good with eating solid foods but I never took my eyes off her just incase. I smiled down at my daughter, who smiled back; her face covered in the jam sandwich she was eating. She was honestly the cutest little being ever! All she did was smile and laugh and repeat the 3 words she knew. But she was learning fast and continues to learn more things everyday. I was so in love with her and would do anything for her. I stood up from the floor and returned to the washing I was folding, whilst still keeping an eye on Laney.

A few minutes had passed when I heard a loud banging on the door. It sounded urgent. I picked the baby up and placed her in the cot with some toys so she wouldn't crawl away before making my way to the front door. I didn't even bother looking through the peep hole before I opened it. I pulled it opened and there stood none other then James Potter. I screamed a little and slammed the door in his face. I stood there for a second before opening the door again. I reached up and slapped him in the face before just staring at him. He was quiet for a while. "I definitely deserved that." James said and I nodded. "Yes, you did." I agreed and just stood there, blocking the door. "Is Sirius here?" James asked and I shook my head. "No. He's gone out to get some stuff for the...." I trailed off, almost revealing that I now have a daughter. James looked at me kind of confused. "Stuff for the what?" He asked and I shook my head. "Nothing. Forget I said anything." He shrugged and I couldn't hear any noises from my daughter so I assumed she was sleep. "So can I come in or...?" James asked. Of course I couldn't make him stand outside any longer, it was getting colder and wetter. "Um, just give me 10 minuets. The house is a bit of a mess." I rushed and closed the door on his face again. I rushed into the living room and carefully picked up my sleeping daughter before racing up the stairs and putting her in her bed. I cast a spell on all her toys and baby things downstairs to make is seem as if none of it existed. I sighed and ran back to open the door. James was still standing on the doorstep.

"Uh, come on in." I said carefully, pulling the door open more so James could come inside. He smiled at me quickly and step through the door, taking his coat off and hanging it on the coat rack. "Would you like something to drink? Maybe tea?" I asked him following him down the hallway and into the living room. "Tea is good, thank you." He said as he sat down on the recliner chair. I prayed to god, hoping that he couldn't see the little shimmer of the invisibly spell I had placed on all of Delaney's stuff. "Tea is it." I say and rush off to the kitchen, picking up other baby stuff I find on the way and throwing it into a cupboard. I make the tea as quickly as I could, using magic to speed up the process a little more. Once the tea was done, I hurry back to James. "So, what have you been doing while I've been gone?" He asked me, taking a sip of his tea. 'Oh you know...nothing too exciting." I replied, not once mentioned the fact that I had a daughter with his best friend. "Why are you living here? At the Black family manor?" He questioned again. I put my tea down. "Um, my family kicked me out." This time I told the complete truth. It was true. We both turned our head to the sound of the front door opening. It was Sirius. He didn't know James was here. I could hear the sounds of the grocery bags rattling and I continued to pray that James wouldn't notice anything suspicious.

"Lily! I'm back. Where's De..." Sirius trailed off as he lifted his head and spotted James sitting in the middle of his living room. "James!" Sirius said with wide eyes. "What a surprise to see you here!" Sirius dropped the bags behind the wall and went over to hug James. He glanced at me and I knew exactly what he wanted. 'Upstairs' I mouthed at him and he quickly nodded. "Well, I better put this shopping away before things melt." He said and smiled at James and I before picking up the hidden bags once more and going into the kitchen. I could hear Sirius put the grocery's away before heading up the stairs to check on our daughter. Someone who James didn't know about yet.  James and I sat in an awkward silence for a very long time. It was just a lot of staring, sipping of tea and humming. Nether of us knew what to say. I could tell by the creaking floorboards up stairs that Sirius had moved from Delaney's bedroom and into the library. I could hear Delaney start waking up and silently cursed. There's no way Sirius would be able to hear her from the library. I could hear her little cries and her calling out for me or Sirius. There was no way James wasn't hearing this as well. "What is that?" James said and I stood up from my chair. "Um...There's something I haven't told you." I said to James. "Is that a baby I can hear?" James said and I nodded. "I have a child." I say quickly and James just stares at me. I stare back and shrug a little.
