Ethan's POV
I've gone through years of church school. My baptism, first communion and now confirmation. I'm sixteen and I have three weeks left of class before the ceremony and I'm officially done.

The classes don't teach much but if I want to get married in a church I have to go through all of this, plus it brings me closer to God which sounds nice, comforting

I'm not that religious, I believe in God, go to church from time to time, pray, and own a rosary. I don't steal, never killed before, I respect and love my mom, and everyone lies

The teachers are measuring us for the robes we have to wear for the ceremony, my height at about 5,7

We got cards that we have to take home and have our parents sign and fill out all the information for so we can actually be apart of the ceremony. Basic stuff where it asked for birth date, place of baptism, name of saint to be our church name, name of my parents and myself and finally my sponsor as they call it. The sponsor is the godfather or godmother, depending which gender you choose

A godfathers role is to be like a second dad, be there for you, care for you, love you and if your real parents or guardians were to pass or something of the sort they would be left in charge of you.

I contemplated between my cousin Maria who was very nice and definitely my favorite cousin but she had the pleasure of being my sponsor at my baptism and she has been kind of distant with everyone lately with her new job having moved away two years ago and doesn't come by much to visit, I don't blame her or anything, just wish she'd come by more often.

I thought of my moms friend Grayson, he was a really nice guy, would sometimes take my mom and I out to eat and to carnivals and such. Our sponsors had to be married in the church so Grayson fit that part too, he was married to this beauteous girl he met in high school sophomore year, got married at twenty-one which had been just a couple months ago which I thought was kind of soon but didn't comment upon, if you're ready I guess.

I attended their wedding with my mom, it was nice and fun to be there, I danced with my mom and a couple others, I did try and dance with some of the kids my age there, some came around but some were shy and kept to themselves instead, or gave me a look and walked away. I danced with the newlyweds once, Forget You by CeeLo Green. It was all smiles and laughs throughout the day and night, four in the morning arriving home, dragging my tipsy mom off to bed before crawling off into mine.

My mom asked me after a day to think about it, my dads out of the picture ever since he knocked up my mom and heard she got pregnant and left. My mom was left on her own to take care of me, struggled with the shame of her parents being religious and believing in abstinence, waiting until marriage

The slut shaming of her classmates and past friends, but she doesn't regret the choice of keeping me. When she first held me she said it was like everything she went through with having me went away, the smile I gave her as I looked into her eyes, reaching out with my little fingers and the new baby scent that waft off me made her tear up, coating her cheeks with a soft liquid pungent with salt

A sense of greed, not for herself but for me, she didn't want anything like what happened to her happen to me, she wanted so much more for me, she wanted to do good by me. Said she felt a new type of love she's never felt before, one that can't be compared. The first kick I gave, my first word, watching me grow up, sending me off to school, we've been inseparable. I love her and she loves me.

I told my mom to put down Grayson's name as my sponsor, at my next class on Sunday I would be giving it to my teacher to give to the priest that would perform at the ceremony.

I'm glad to have Grayson as my godfather, I don't have much of any family left, my mom getting pregnant at 16 left her with little to no ones support, she had to stay with her aunt for some time before she could move out on her own. Grayson was her neighbor in the apartment we stayed at when she first moved out, he would babysit and take care of me  when my mom couldn't. I love him for that and so much more
