I woke up pretty early today, everyone else seemed to be sleeping. I got out of the room and started to examine the place pretty closely, when I reached the main hallway I heard a noise from outside the exit door. I could see Luke on duty guarding the door but he too was fast asleep. I peeked through the window and saw a man in mid 30's going through the trash can. *What do I do now?* I asked myself. He could be dangerous or could be a scout. I decided to wake Luke up. "Psstt, hey Luke" I whispered before shaking his arm gently and then going on to pinch it. He jolted up and got in a steady position, he calmed down when he saw me. "What's up, Alex why are you here at this time?" he asked while yawning. "Shh, there's a man outside" I explained. Luke eyes were wide opened when he heard it.

He handed me a knife and took his sword out. "we gonna get rid of him" he gave me a tight nod and glanced through the window. "He's there, I can see him" he hissed. He then gently opened the door and moved with extreme caution. the stranger's back was on us. Luke decided for a stealth kill and asked me to interfere when told. He crouched and went slowly towards the target, but then the man turned. Luke charged midway but the stranger was quick to react, he dodged the sword.

He raised both of his arms, "Don't hurt me, let me go please, my kids are waiting for me" he pleaded. "Please I beg you" He fell on his knees. Luke lowered his sword, the same fear could be seen in his eyes as well, fear of dying perhaps."Well then we'll let the boss decide your fate", said Luke before tying up his hands and legs with his handkerchief.

I kept a watch on the man so Luke can go inform our boss but it was no good, our boss didn't like it when anyone disturbs him when he's asleep. "No good, we'll have to wait until it's time for breakfast", stated Luke and then sighed. Luke rolled both of the man's sleeve to look for something. "What's up with that? I asked. "Well, he isn't one of the dragons, perhaps he doesn't belong to any clan" Luke responded, his eyes were still fixed on the man.

"The dragons? who?" I raised an eyebrow. "Almost everyone here knows them, to put it simply they are an evil force trying to erase humanity from existence, what makes them eviler is that they consume us, humans, to fill their stomach" Luke explained. I was stunned, I could recall the words said by that man earlier and the fact that they took my mother with them means they'd have probably consumed her too. Losing someone you love is hard and takes a toll on you.

Thinking about it was hurting my head and also boiling my blood, Luke noticed it and put a hand on my shoulder. "calm down, everyone here like you disgust and despise them for what they are and we won't let them get what they want." stated Luke. Emma soon entered the hall, her black hairs shined in the sunlight. We both greeted each other. "Who's this guy?" she asked. "We caught him stalking us" explained Luke.

The man seemed to be in some sort of shock, his gaze was down and was drooling. His breath was heavy and uneven. Soon our boss showed up and Luke explained to him the situation. Our boss examined him thoroughly and without questioning him he said: "Kill him and bury the body somewhere" The man looked up and shouted, he constantly pleaded for his life and told us he had kids waiting for him.

"You, brat" The boss pointed straight at me. "Since you are the least useful, you're going to get rid of him" our eyes met, his inhuman gaze was scary. "But Boss, he's new here and he hasn't fully recovered from his mother's death" Luke pleaded. "So you''re gonna put your life on the line for him? We don't know him,  what if he screws your squad up because he's too scared to attack and pull the trigger coz he ain't over his mom, sooner or later he's gonna get killed or will get us killed, we don't need such useless beings here" Our boss raged and his voice raised this time.

"Seems like we don't have a choice here, Alex," said Luke before handing me his sharp sword. "Make sure to finish him in your first attack, it'd hurt less". Why me, I wondered if killing humans made The dragons evil then Crescent was no different than them. He didn't do anything to me, we didn't even know if he was a scout, it looked like he was just an ordinary man looking for food, I gripped my sword tight as I walked towards the man who was still tied. I managed to build up all my strength and ignoring all his pleading I stabbed him in the heart I couldn't believe what I had done, I murdered a human who didn't do anything to me. His blood came rushing out of his chest and after struggling for a bit he hit the floor and all I could do was stare at his lifeless body. Tears came rolling down my eyes as Luke comforted me.

Now I knew the reason why the people functioned that way, they lacked hope, vision, and dreams. They lived in deep fear of death and believed they have a very limited amount of days here yet they wanted to live and cling on their lives. Hopelessness was all I could see and it looked as if they lacked feelings and emotions, looked as if they have gone through a lot or maybe there was a lot more than that to it.

After dinner, some members who were divided into groups were sent outside in search of food. I had to stay behind with Luke and other members in order to protect the hideout.

Just like that almost 2 weeks passed and we three, Luke, Emma and I soon created a strong bond of friendship between ourselves and I was pretty happy until that day when we three were sent out to find resources and that day was definitely one of the WORST days of my life.
