Just as my mind went into the darkest of places, imagining that my partner was either gunned down by the high powered artillery, or blown up in the explosion, he came rushing out of what was left of the interrogation room with his gun drawn.

"Murph! You alright!?" I Everett call out as he opened fire on a bad guy to protect us.

"I'm good! T'Challa went after them! We have to help him!" I called back.

Just as it had almost calmed down, another stray shot came from a nearly dead man as Everett jumped in front of Nakia, taking the bullet that was meant for her.

"EVERETT!!!!" I let out a blood curdling scream as I watched my partner get shot, his body collapsing instantly.

Without hesitating, I emptied five rounds into the shooter before racing to Everett's side. T'Challa came running back into the building before stopping to process the sight before him.

"Everett!? E! Come on Ross don't do this to me!" My voice panicked as I tried to keep him alert.

"We have to go! Now." T'Challa said to the girls as they both looked up at him from Everett's side.

"We can't leave him! He took a bullet for me! He saved my life!" Nakia argued to both Okoye and T'Challa.

"That was his choice!" Okoye protested.

"The bullet hit his spine. We won't make it." Another Officer mentioned.

"Come on Everett, stay with me okay? I need you to stay alive." Tears fell from my eyes as I laid next to him with a hand on his cheek.

"They can't help him here. Let us take him, we can save him." T'Challa said to the officer as she nodded to him.

"Here, use this to stabilize him until we can get him home." Nakia said as she handed the king a black bead that he placed inside Everett's wound.

"You're going to be alright now, Agent Ross." T'Challa said before looking to me and nodding as if to say 'it's time to go.'

We got up and instead of leaving with the extraction team that was on the way for Everett and I, we left with Everett on a high tech hovering table, unconscious, and got on a separate aircraft on the way to Wakanda with the king and his company.

I stood in the aircraft and never took my eyes off of my friend, who we weren't sure would ever be the same man he was before the bullet. I held his lifeless hand, and for the first time in a long time, I prayed.
As I opened my eyes I wiped a quick tear away before,

"Are you alright, Miss Rogers?" T'Challa asked with a comforting hand on my shoulder.

"I'll be fine, thank you." I tried to fake a smile with puffy eyes.

"This man, he is important to you, yes?" T'Challa asked me as he looked from me and down to Everett's sleeping body.

I shrugged and sniffled, followed by a small chuckle,
"I don't know where I'd be right now if I didn't have him around to keep me out of trouble. He saved me." I smiled down at him as I squeezed his hand.

"I will do everything I can to make sure you get him back 100%." T'Challa patted my shoulder before returning to his seat.

I couldn't even think about anything else right now.

As we walked through the halls of this enormous facility in Wakanda, I prayed. Prayed for Everett. He was a good man. He didn't deserve this...

"Oh great! Another broken white boy for me to fix!" A young girl arrived beside us as she walked along.

"Shuri, this is-"

"Murphy! Nice to meet you." I interrupted as kindly as I could.

"Yes... Murphy... she is a surgeon. Maybe she can assist you." Tchalla smirked at my name change.

"Ooo yes!" Shuri said almost too excitedly.

I put my head down as my stomach sunk at the thought of my old life... old career... I'd be rusty as all hell by now.

"Sure. Where do we scrub in?" I asked coldly as my nerves got to me.

Shuri looked at me and giggled,

"We don't do that here."

"WHAT? What do you mean 'we don't do that here!?' How are you creating a sterile field?!" I nearly panicked at this chaos.

"Relax, colonizer. Come with me!" Shuri laughed and waved for me to follow.

Glad to know everyone is taking this as a huge joke! Ugh!

I followed Shuri into the operating room which looked like a typical science lab, if it were 80 years from now.

"Woah." I said to myself as I looked around.

"Just wait till you see this." Shuri smiled at my likeness.

She opened up a holotable that displayed Everett's spine, and the bullet.

"He will live." She smirked at me as I studied it carefully.

I exhaled in relief of those words, he will live...
"Thank you, Shuri.." I said weakly as I held onto Everett's hand tightly.

"Is He your boyfriend?" Shuri asked me as she worked on Everett's spine.

"God no!" I snorted with a chuckle and wiped a tear away.

"You love him though, yes?" She asked.

"Umm... not exactly.. I mean... not like... that. I love him as my family..." I did my best to explain.

"I understand, though, he is not your family for real?" She asked in curiosity.

"No. He's not even close." I chuckled as I smiled down at him,
"He.. saved me. When no one else could."

"And now you will save him." Shuri reassured me.

"I hope so.." I sighed.
