It was four years ago.

Just before the accident.

Before Steve and I stopped talking.

Before life became complicated.

Only, things were different... I didn't know Steve very well, I'd never lived in DC. I'd stayed with my father in stark tower. Went to college in New York to be a psychiatrist after being inspired by helping dad work through his anxiety issues. Steve and I had seen each other and spoken in passing a few times after initially meeting him for the first time after the battle in New York. Every time he'd talked to me, it was a sweet, shy, respectful, yet adorable smile that graced his already perfected face. But there was always this tension and the more often I passed him in the halls or talked to him on coms, or... in my office when his PTSD got the best of him, the tension got worse. There was an unspoken thing, we just knew it..

There was a formal party going on at Stark tower.

All of the Avengers and then some would be there.

I spent all day trying to decide what to wear. I wanted to make sure I looked as close to perfect as possible. There would be some important people coming to this party, and after all, I do represent my dad. I decided on this look:

"Dad? Does this look okay?" I asked as my heels clacked lightly on the polished tile floor toward my dad who was standing in a suit at the bar, awaiting guests

"Dad? Does this look okay?" I asked as my heels clacked lightly on the polished tile floor toward my dad who was standing in a suit at the bar, awaiting guests.

A proud smiled graced my dads face as he walked over to me,

"You look stunning, princess." He kissed my forehead, causing me to wrinkle my nose and giggle at him.

"I'm not a little girl anymore dad!" My laugh trickled through the room as my dad smirked.

"You'll always be my little girl. " he smiled as I linked my arm in his and we walked through the gala floor.

We greeted guests and smiled as my dad introduced me to people of all kinds that came through the doors. Veterans, doctors, scientists, groupies, everyone. Chatter filled the room quickly as we began to finally see familiar faces spread across the gala.

"Rhodes!" I smiled as I walked over to him, giving him a hug.

"That's Uncle Rhodey to you miss!" Rhodey chuckled as he hugged me.

"It's good to see you! I'll come find you later and catch up!" I laughed as I moved onto the next guest to greet.

Natasha and Bruce walked in arm in arm with gracious smiles.

"Hi guys!" I squealed as I skipped over to them, giving them both huge hugs!

"How's my little lady!" Nat asked as she squeezed my shoulders lovingly.

"I'm good, I'm good ya know. Working as always!" I giggled and rolled my eyes.

"At least your job is home!" She chuckled back.
