I cut off the shower water with one hand as I held Johan in the other arm football style. I was goin to miss him being this small, at 8 months he was already starting to grow up too fast for me. As I exited the shower , I used my free hand to grab his towel not concerned with my own . Laying it down on our California King sized bed I placed him in the center , i made sure to tuck his arms into the towel and put him on his nursing pillow to keep him from rolling around as I went back to the bathroom to grab our lotion and my own towel.

When I returned I watched as he sucked on his knuckles , his eye lids heavy as he drifted in and out of sleep. I'd kept him up late so he'd sleep through the night and he was delirious now.

I chuckled to myself as his sleep finally took him , his little snores and hit chunky belly moving in sync. I lotioned his tiny body then used some aquaphor on his small ezcema patch on his nose.

I put him in a simple white onsie and put some footies on his feet and hands before laying him in his crib.

His snores became louder as he stretched a bit, but he did not wake up. I stood over his crib rubbing his little gut and I could see his smile indicating that he was sleeping peacefully. I turned on the baby monitor as I tightened my towel around myself. My stomach began rumbling as I walked down the hall turning on all the lights along my way because this house was way too big with way too many corners. Nancy had made a pot of velvet chicken soup when she got back and me being on a diet since having my Johan, I hadn't had any.

I found my slippers at the base of the stairs and slipped them on. My hair began to air dry and it would be a hassle to get it untangled but I didn't care. My baby was finally sleep and I was starving. I took a bowl out, layered it with rice and a generous amount of soup. I watched as the bowl rotated in the microwave, once I took it out I grabbed the hot sauce and a bottle of water and sat at the island.

I ate slowly, cherishing every bite not trying to think about how many miles I would have to run to negate it. I loved my son but my body had definitely been different since I had him, I never had to work this hard to stay in shape before.

As I scrapped the bottom of the bowl I could hear keys jingling at the front door. I put the bowl in the sink as I tried to hurry up the stairs but I was too late.
