The next day after Shizuo almost bled to death, I found Masaomi talking to a boy in my classroom, writing something on the board. The other boy seemed like Masaomi's age, with short black hair. He looked like a typical country boy, and he didn't look like the type that fit in. I immediately knew who the boy was: he was Mikado Ryugamine. I remembered him well since I embarrassed myself in front of the class while trying to read his name. I never knew he was a friend of Masaomi, though. Masaomi noticed me. "Oh, excuse me, Sensei! I was just using your chalkboard," he said as he erased what he had drawn. "It's fine." I said as I walked in and sat at my desk. I looked at a framed photograph of me, Simon, and Shizuo that I took a few weeks ago.

Shizuo refused to take a picture but I mentioned that I would frame it and that suddenly changed his mind. "Is that who I think it is?!" Masaomi dramatically asked. I jumped and set the photo face down, not knowing Masaomi was still in the classroom. "Kida-kun, let's go." Mikado said with his sorry voice. "Not until I figure out what Sensei's relationship is with the Strongest Man in Ikebukuro!" Masaomi said excitedly. "He's a friend, Masaomi," I said. "Now keep your voice down! I don't want a bunch of teenagers asking me questions about him, alright?" "Oh, I know, I know." Masaomi said. I had a feeling he didn't know at all. "Wait, you know Heiwajima-san?" Mikado said with his weak voice.

He seemed to be scared of me all of a sudden. "Yes, I do," I said. "No more questions." "You should have seen him yesterday, Sensei!" Masaomi said excitedly. "He beat the living crap out of these-" "-gangsters that were actually after Izaya Orihara, yes he told me. Thank you for sharing," I finished. "He told you?" Masaomi asked. "Oh my gosh, can you give me his number so I can tell him how aweso-" "I wouldn't if I were you," I told him. "Shizuo isn't the kind of guy that thinks his power is 'awesome'. He hates violence. He just can't control himself, that's all. Now get out, both of you. Go to the roof and flirt with some girls or something." "Roger that, Sensei! C'mon Mikado!" Masaomi said as he ran out of the classroom. "Sorry about Masaomi." Mikado said as he bowed slightly. Then he was gone.

[Time Skip]

During the next months after the new school year started, Shizuo had gotten into a lot of fights. Well, technically gangsters picked a fight so Shizuo just gave what they asked for. I would wake up at around 10 or 11 at night, listening to Shizuo come into the apartment mumbling about how he's going to kick Izaya and the Yellow Scarves' asses. One rainy night, I couldn't sleep so I decided to bake a cake. I know, that sounds awfully weird, but when I was a teenager, I used to bake cakes in my spare time. I wanted to surprise Shizuo with something sweet because I knew he had a sweet tooth. I finished decorating it, using whipped cream. I didn't like using frosting since it can get too sweet. When I finished my sweet creation, I looked at my watch.

10:45 P.M.

'That's strange.' I thought. 'Shizuo should be here by now.' I went over to the coffee table and sat on the tatami, staring at the closed balcony window. The rain was pouring pretty badly, and I was afraid Shizuo would get sick from this weather. Several hours passed, leaving me no choice. I got up, got an umbrella, and left the apartment, phone at hand. I called Shizuo, but there was no answer. I was really getting worried now. Where the hell was he? I walked for hours in the streets of Ikebukuro. I checked every single alley. I guess that was my mistake. I accidentally went through an alleyway that somehow led me to warehouses. I was confused, not knowing how I got there. I looked around and a sight made me literally almost piss my pants: members of the Yellow Scarves were roaming the place as if guarding one of the warehouses.

Something in my mind told me to go back, but curiosity made me sneak near the entrance of the warehouse without being seen. I saw little windows and saw light shining from them, and I also heard some talking. A lot of people were in there. I heard some murmurs but I heard an annoying voice of a man. At first, I thought he was talking to himself, but then I noticed he was talking on the phone. He was happy, but I couldn't hear what he was saying. Right when I was about to hear what the man was saying, a hand gagged my mouth. Arms wrapped around my neck and waist as I struggled, but something hit my head extremely hard. I dropped my umbrella and my vision faded to darkness. But before I passed out, I could have sworn I saw some blood trickling down my nose.
