When the rest of the band stepped away slightly Dalton put his arm around my waist and I thought my knees were going to buckle. I knew what I was going to do, and I needed all the courage I could muster up. As my brother's thumb goes down to take th...

Some people look at ballerinas and think 'Oh she's delicate' or 'She's fragile' but both of those are wrong. Ballerinas are athletes, we work muscles people probably don't even know that they have and I know for a fact that just because my sport isn't running, doesn't mean I won't win in a lifting competition with you.
If toes could talk, ours would tell stories. Some good, some bad. Most of the time when people laugh at me being a ballerina I just roll my eyes at them, they aren't worth it. They've already made up their mind. But I bet they don't know that some football players do ballet to help Strengthen them. Have you ever seen 'The Game Plan'?
Ballet is like a second family, a second home. You can make lifelong enemies and friends at your studio. We train for hours a day together, and around shows we spend more time with each other than our own families.
No matter how much my mom wants it I'm not ready to go anywhere to become a full-time ballerina, it's too much. Not to mention that no matter how much my mom drives me crazy I would miss my family.
Walking into I feel both nervous and excited. Nervous because I'm not ready to see myself in the mirror that runs floor to ceiling, but exited also because Madam is choosing the roles of our next show 'Sleeping beauty'. I'm not sure if any other studios do it this way, but everyone auditions for the Pas de Deux, which is the dances with the principal male and female.
Every girl gets a turn with a guy, and since there are more girls than guys, the guys get to audition twice. I sit and start to stretch.
Madame is looking for a graceful, connected, and a music flowing couple. This is the couple that are the main characters, so they have to have commitment and passion. I'm nervous because I'm not as thin as Rene, not as flexible as Amber, and not as technical as Sara. I'm good, but being good isn't what gets you far, as my mom would say.
"Good morning class." We all stand to our feet when Madam walks in. "I wanted to start by saying that you never make my decision for casting shows easy, you are all very talented and bring something different to each of the roles.
With that being said, I'll start with the principal, first, Sleeping Beauty. This is a role that carries the show, after all the whole ballet is named after her. It's a hard and demanding role meaning that the person playing sleeping beauty will have to be committed, reliable, and perfect when performing." 'No pressure.' I think to myself.
"I'm trusting Rene with the part of Sleeping Beauty."

We all clap politely but none of us are surprised, Rene is a full-time ballerina, she does the intense program at the school, it's more than a 'duh' moment when she gets it.
