Robert’s POV

“What?!”

I looked at my boss, not believing his words.

“I like you a lot, Robert. But I never even thought about giving you a job. Your mother was the one who told me about it, after watching that advert you appeared in. After talking to Mrs. Evans, we decided it was an amazing thing to do. It was your mothers request in the first place, though”

I looked at him, not able to say a word. Why would my mother do that?

I mean… now? After all these years?

“I really care about your mother, Robert.”

I frowned “It doesn’t make any sense… you didn’t know my father was Howard Hunter before he came here. You told me yourself.”

He looked down, taking a deep breath “That’s right. That’s another story”

“Another story? How is it another story?! My parents are very well known around this town”

“Robert… this is why you should talk to your mother. There really is much you don’t know about. And she just wants an opportunity to talk to you, to prove to you that she is regretful and wants to be your mother while she still has the time for it.”

“I… understand you care about her and you have… whatever it is, but… I-I’m not sure if you also put yourself in my position, boss. You see, there is no possible explanation for her to have chosen her fame and wealth over me.”

“Robert…” he took a deep breath “I understand, young man. I’m just asking you to give her a chance to talk…”

I stood up, not really wanting to feel more pressured than I already was. “I’ll… I’m gonna go, sir. See you tomorrow”

“Think about it, Robert…” He said as I walked away “Your mother is a wonderful person”

The entire situation wouldn’t leave my mind as I walked towards the car.

I was only distracted once I entered and saw the dust in its front. I immediately got a small piece of cloth I have there and started cleaning it.

As I did, all I could see was the image of my mother in my mind.

It is all really weird.

My boss says I have this job because of her but then he doesn’t know I am Howard Hunter’s son? There’s no way he was faking it.

I accidentally touched the radio, while cleaning that interior front, only to get stuck in all those buttons and gadgets.

Turn the volume louder.

Loud.

Low.

Loud.

Low.

Loud.

Low

Turn it off!

Turn it on!

Louder.

Lower.

Off.

On.

Your phone, you idiot.

I frowned, taking a deep breath. I searched for my ringing phone, but when I finally got it, it was already off.

I saw about seven missed calls from Emma.
