"i got it!" i exclaimed once nathan sent me the map screenshot, chloe rushed over to me as she pulled a t shirt down over her torso and picked up my phone, looking at the screenshot of the map,
"okay," she nodded handing my phone back to me, "i think i know where that is. how long do we have?"
"a while," i shrugged getting out of bed and pulling out one of chloe's shirts and swapping my t shirt with it, "class doesn't finish until 2 today,"
"okay," she nodded pulling on her boots with an anxious sigh,
"hey," i spoke sitting down next to her once my jeans were fastened over my hips, "whatever we're gonna find, we're gonna be one step closer to finding rachel," she looked up at me with a soft smile,
"i know, i just," she sighed, "is it bad to say that i've gotten used to not having her around?" i shook my head softly,
"no," i replied, "you probably got used to not having me around too. but, we're gonna have to get used to having her around again," i nudged her softly with my elbow before i pulled on my shoes. the both of us sitting on the end of her bed for a moment, both knowing that we were ready to figure out what happened to rachel and why it was so important that both of these dark rooms were to be built so urgently and with my mother's life insurance money.

the drive out to the barn was longer than i had expected and the space was more isolated and abandoned than i could have imagined. the building looked like no one had touched it in decades, the wood was rotting and the walls were slanted slightly,
"are you sure we're in the right place?" i asked chloe as we stood in front of it, the wind blowing through my hair gently. chloe looked at her phone,
"yeah. we're in the right place," i glanced at her with a confused expression before stepping away from her and walking towards the two large doors, pulling them open with all my strength and still not being convinced that we were here as it opened up to a large empty space littered with hay.
"i don't wanna ask you again, but-"
"we're in the right place," chloe spoke with a soft laugh as she stepped into the building. owl's cooing from the roof and the rustling of leaves from outside rushing into the room, "i think," she spoke from a few meters in front of me, her voice littered with confusion as it echoed throughout the empty space.
"the contract said it's underground," i said as we both started looking around for any sign of a modern facility, we were looking for longer than i had hoped but chloe spoke suddenly from the opposite side of the space, making me jump,
"here!" i rushed over to her and started to help her lift up the large metal plate that was covering the ground, we stared down into the hole once we uncovered it, revealing a set of stairs and a large safe door, much like the one in mark's home,
"this is it," i walked down the stairs quickly and punched in the code, the door clicking open and allowing us to enter.
nathan was right, it was a lot bigger and had a lot more equipment. chloe followed me into the room and we both stood there, not knowing where to start,
"i'll start on the computer," i suggested walking away from her and moving towards the device on the glass desk,
"i'll start in the cabinets." was the last thing either of us said for a while, the sound of the mouse clicking and paper being shuffled around filling the large white room.

i was on a mission to find that folder that was named after rachel, but my eyes caught kate's name before anything else. i furrowed my brows as i clicked on it, knowing that it was just a folder of her assignments, but the wind was soon knocked out of my lungs as i stared at the images of her.
i couldn't even begin to describe what i was looking at but it made me ill. her eyes were closed and lips parted softly as she was borderline unconscious laying in the bed that mark let her stay in the night we bought her here,
"chloe..." i managed to croak out as i stared at the screen, she was quick to rush over to me and lean over the back of my chair,
"holy fucking shit," she breathed out as i clicked through the images.
"this computer is full of folders with names on it," i spoke clicking out of kate's folder and back onto the collection of them, scrolling down trying to find rachel's, "stop," chloe spoke suddenly. i stopped scrolling and stared at the screen, not knowing what she was looking at until my heart plummeted and i felt dizzy, "rosie..." she spoke as my mouse hovered over the folder with my name on it. i exhaled shakily as i clicked on it, tears burning my eyes once the photos loaded. i couldn't take my eyes off the screen as i stared at the photos of myself lying on mark's couch, asleep and unknowing to what was happening.
"i didn't remember falling asleep that night," i managed to speak without throwing up, still going through the images and coming across ones from the night i slept in mark's bed. my naked body was covered by the white sheet and my eyes were closed softly, my hair messily spread out across the pillow and my lips parted as i slept. i sniffed softly as tears slipped from my eyes, chloe's hand landing on my back gently,
"stop looking at them," she spoke, her voice cracking too. "please," she begged me and i exited out of the folder, our eyes now scouring the screen for rachel's name and a burst of excitement running through my body when i found it, clicking on it and seeing the photos. that excitement soon turned into dread and disgust as we stared at the screen, i could feel chloe shaking her head and her breaths becoming short and shallow before she walked away from me, running her hands through her hair not wanting to look at the images. but i couldn't stop, my mouse hovered over the first one and i clicked on it, enlarging the image.
it was rachel, of course it was, she looked fucking beautiful. even when her limbs were sprawled out into uncomfortable positions. i felt acid like tears leave my eyes as i clicked through the next few. she was also unconscious, like kate and i. her eyes closed and mouth parted slightly. soon enough it wasn't just her in the images, nathan had joined her, his eyes also closed and limbs contorted slightly. my breath hitched and a small sob escaped my lips,
"rosie, please," chloe cried from the other side of the screen, "please stop looking," i nodded stiffly as i exited out of the photos, closing the windows and standing from the chair.
"what do we do?" i asked her fighting the nausea,
"we go to the police,"
"the police is run by the prescott's chloe... we can't just go there without any evidence,"
"we need to get evidence. what's the time?" she asked me, i pulled out my phone and looked at the clock,
"1:30. we need to go," i spoke suddenly becoming worried that mark could turn up here at any moment.

not a word was spoken as we drove back to chloe's house, the both of us hoping for the best but not expecting the worst for rachel after seeing those photos of her. but knowing that nathan had also been apart of them was sickeningly giving me hope that she was still here.
we stayed silent until we got back into chloe's room. she closed the door behind me and sighed deeply,
"i know what i can do," i spoke, she looked up at me,
"what for?"
"to get evidence," she furrowed her brows, "you just," i sighed, "you need to trust me," she looked at me with worried eyes,
"okay," she breathed, "i trust you."
