Desmond's point of view.......
I just can't concentrate to what the teacher is teaching .
The only thing I am thinking about is how I reacted when Christiana asked me ;
What's my mum's name ? .
I know I should have told her ,that I don't like to speak about my mum , maybe she would have understood me .
But I gave her no explanations to my anger . I saw her shaking as she said ;
That's all the questions .
I made her fear me .
Is been long we met . I miss her . I want her back badly . I want to apologise for how I reacted . I was over angry when she asked that question.
I know ,I met her just last week Friday but I feel like I have known her for ages .
She is - - . My thoughts cuts when I hear her voice .
" Good morning Sir . " She greets the teacher
" Good morning Christiana . Why are you here ? " The teacher questions her .
" Ummm...... The principal wants Desmond to report to his office now . " Christiana informs the teacher
" Desmond ! The principal's office now ! " The teacher informs me
I wonder why the principal wants to see me . I can't even speak .
I say to myself as I exit door with Christiana
She stopped walking when we reached the school hall . Why has she stopped walking ?
She turns around and face me . Then she speaks ;
" D- D - Desmond , I want to apologise for not understanding your anger . I should have just skipped the question as you said . I am really sorry for making your anger heat up . Please forgive me. I should have understood that you didn't want to answer that question. "
Wait is she apologising .Am the one supposed to apologise.
" Christiana , stop taking the blame . Is my fault , I should told you that I don't like to talk about my mum but instead I became over angry .Am so sorry . Forgive me. " I apologised using sign language.
" I forgive you but - - " Christiana said but I cut her quickly
" I forgive you too , despite it wasn't your fault . " I said using sign language
Then she smiles widely
I took her right hand and kissed it .
She smiles widely again
" Will you be going to work today ? " Christiana questions me
" No. I lost my job. " I said using sign language
" What ???? How come ??? You got the job just last week Friday . " Christiana questions
" Yeah I got that job , the same day I met you but I have lost it . It hurts me that am always loosing jobs . I have never had a permanent job and it hurts just like a knife being stabbed in my chest . " I said using sign language
" Your siblings won't be happy about this . It will make them - - " Christiana said but I cut her quickly.
"I have never told my siblings about this . I don't want them to be worried , like the first time I lost my job. They won't focus on their studies and other things. They won't even talk to their friends and they won't do their homework . I don't want all that to happen again. "I said using sign language.
" Hmmm . When did you lose your job ? Why do you keep on loosing jobs ? "
" This Tuesday , that I lost my job. I keep loosing jobs because am mute . " I said using sign language.
" Oh !!! Why ?? " Christiana questions me
" Christiana ! When will you take me to the principal's office. " I question her using sign language.
" Oh that was a lie . " Christiana confesses
" What??? You lied ??? Why ?? You know you can get in trouble for that. " I question her using sign language.
" No ,am not going to get into trouble . The principal is my uncle and I informed him about it , so he knows . I lied because I wanted to see you , I wanted to talk to you . The guilt was eating me up. Yeah I felt guilt , despite you said it isn't my fault . " Christiana explains
" Wow ! The principal is your uncle ? " I question using sign language.
" Yeah . " Christiana answers
" Lucky girl . " I said using sign language
" You wouldn't say that if you were me . " Christiana said
" Whatever ! You are still lucky ! " I said using sign language
Then she laughs shortly
" Desmond . I want to send you somewhere in the evening . " Christiana said
" So where do you want to send me ? " I question using sign language
" That's a surprise . I will be sending your siblings also but the whole time will be for us . I will come at 6pm . " Christiana said excitedly
" You are kidding . The whole time won't be for us , if my siblings will be around . " I said using sign language
" Wait and see . Oops you need to get to class. " Christiana reminds me.
" Yeah and you too . " I said using sign language
" Nope . " Christiana said
" Why ?? " I ask using sign language
" My uncle also known as the principal is going through my assignments ,tests and homework . He wants to check if I do my homeworks and he wants to check if I have given up on my studies." Christiana said in an annoyed manner
" Okay. I need to get to class .See you later ." I said using sign language.
She smiles and says ;
Have a nice day ! See you later at 6pm.
" Bye ! " I said using sign language
Then I head to class
