17.) Preperation

Your school was starting to set up a play,Rudolph the red nosed reindeer in the theater house. Basically Santa needs help lighting the way so he recruits a reindeer with a glow up nose and then everybody likes him.
Kinda confusing oh well.
You are on stage crew. You do the lights with Gilbert. Anne plays Rudolph, Billy plays Santa, Josie plays Mrs. Claus, and there are 8 other people who play the reindeers.
Today the cast is rehearsing lines while everybody else helps make the sets. There are only 2 backgrounds, Santa's office and the outside scene. Cole works away at painting the two.
"Wow, your a really good artist." You say.
"Thanks, better than doing that." Cole says pointing at the cast all arguing.
"Yeah I wouldn't step a foot on stage." You say.
"Me either. I would definitely mess up." Cole says.
When all the sets are done, everybody takes a break.
You guys get cookies and milk. You grab a few cookies and plop yourself down next to Gilbert.
He smiles at you with a mouthful of cookie.
"Ready for the big night?" Gilbert Asks sarcastically.
"Yeah, all we have to do is pull a few ropes." You say.
"This is so stupid. It should have been optional."Gilbert said groaning.
"I know." You say laughing at him.
"What's so funny?" He Asks smirking.
"You." You say admiring him.
Out of the corner of your eye you can see Ruby staring at you.
"Ruby staring at me, fun." You say sarcastically.
"Let's make her more jealous." He says grinning. He pulls you closer and puts his arm around you. You put a cookie in your mouth, but Gilbert turns your head. He leans in close and takes a bit out of the cookie, leaving you blushing of how close he is.
I'm never going to be used to the butterflies he gives me.
You see Ruby run off.
"I kinda feel bad." You say guiltily.
""Just having some fun." Gilbert says.
"Alright, play times over, back to work." Mr. Phillips says.
"This is child labor!" Gilbert whisper shouts so Mr Phillips can't hear, making you laugh.
You and Gilbert practice pulling the ropes when Ruby walk over to Gilbert next to you. They start talking and you can tell Gilbert is uncomfortable. He signals "help me" to you when Ruby isn't looking.
"Stage crew! Come here." Mr. Phillips says.
You and Gilbert swiftly walk away.
"Saved by the old man." Gilbert says in relief.
"She completely ignored me." You say giggling.
"Stage crew, you are done for the day, you can just sit and eat cookies." Mr. Phillips says.
You both sit down and eat some more cookies. It gets colder so Gilbert grabs a blanket and wraps it around both of you. You put your head on his shoulder and he puts his head on yours.
"When is the play?" You ask.
"Tomorrow." Gilbert says sighing.
Billy asks over to you guys.
"What's up?" Billy Asks sitting down at the table across from you.
"What do you want?" Gilbert Asks.
"Wow calm down buddy, wasn't even talking to you." Billy said.
"Oh, sorry go ahead talk to my girlfriend." Gilbert said rubbing it in.
"Wait, you guys are dating now?" Billy Asks a bit sad.
"Yep." You say.
"Guess I won her over first, like you said." Gilbert said shrugging his shoulders.
Billy stomps off and you and Gilbert burst out laughing.
"Alright, thank you all for helping, you are dismissed." Mr. Phillips said.
You and Gilbert walked out hand in hand and walked home together.
"Bye, y/n."Gilbert says.
"Bye, Blythe." You say smiling and going inside.
He is quite literally the boy of my dreams.
