Chapters Of A Soul

I stare at the cover
You're a hardcover, strong and worth a lot more
The picture giving an idea of what's inside
The printed description, honest and true

I turn the page
My fingers run over the words
The paper pages soft
Smooth like your skin

I enter another chapter
Your words just as alluring as the last
Another paragraph in
I can't stop now I have to keep reading

I can't put you down
I carry you everywhere with me
My mind constantly ticking over
One page after another they turn, next

I slip the bookmark between the pages
I don't dare fold the corners
I treat your pages with love
As if "Please handle with care" is visibly inscribed
