After Squidward cooled down, he returned to the Krusty Krab to see Patrick talking to his new girlfriend, Sandy Cheeks. When Squidward saw this, a wave of sadness rushed over him. He couldn't believe that Patrick was no longer single. He tried to push the feelings he had out of him, but he simply couldn't. He broke down in front of Patrick and Sandy. Patrick rushed to comfort him, but Squidward turned away. He couldn't stand the thought of Patrick being with someone else. He had to come to terms with himself; he had feelings for Patrick. Then he thought it was just a petty crush, and that it wasn't anything serious. Knowing that, he felt better.
