Wattpad After Dark New Year's Writing Contest

The beginning of a new year marks the perfect time to start fresh. At Wattpad After Dark, we're starting with a firecracker of a writing contest. It's up to you to strike the match!

Prompt:

Your main character is tired of following the rules, being a wallflower, and people using them as a doormat.

It's New Year's Eve and this year's resolution is to grab onto life and take some chances.

Tell us what happens when caution is thrown to the wind and a midnight kiss, and more is exchanged with a gorgeous stranger.

But wait!

That stranger turns out to be...

The formidable new boss

An old crush, all grown up

The hot new professor, or

The tenant who just moved in across the hall

Use your imagination!

Guidelines:

All stories must adhere to Wattpad content guidelines.

~ Start date: December 28th, 2018

~ End date: January 31st, 2019 (11:59 pm Eastern American time)

January 26th, 2019: The deadline for the submissions has been extended for another ten days, till the 10th of February!

~ Word count: 1000-1500 (min/max)

~ Stories should be written in English

~ FanFic is accepted; real life or alternate universe

~ Stories must be tagged #afterdarknewyearscontest

~ Stories should be stand-alone on your profile

~ The story must be original work, not published elsewhere

~ Stories must be rated mature if they meet that guideline. Do adhere to the Contest Guidelines if not entries will be disqualified

~ LGBTQ stories are welcome

~ Submissions must be sent through the submission form

Please note: Only submissions made via the linked form will be considered for the anthology. The form is available in the external link as well. 

Judging:

Each submitted story will be considered.

Judging will be scored based on the guidelines.

Please pay close attention to spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Creativity and relevance to the prompt will be the main focus areas.

Rewards:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced as soon as judging is completed, approximately February 15th. They will receive recognition from the After Dark profile and a sticker to place on the cover of their one-shot.

The winners will first be announced in an anthology on the @WattpadAfterDark profile. 

What is an Anthology? It's a published collection of written pieces. The collection can consist of various different authors, but the written pieces generally follow a common theme. The top 3 stories will be selected to feature in our Wattpad After Dark, Scarlet Letter Anthology.
