'Narcissism' in psychology comes from a well-known . The handsome, self-absorbed and vain young man fell passionately in love with his reflection in the water. He was so fascinated by his beauty that he refused to leave the water. In the end, he withered and died. Pathologically narcissistic people often have an unrealistic sense of superiority and entitlement. They also have difficulty empathizing with others and establishing meaningful relationships. Narcissism can be harmful to both the individual and those around them.
This was the definition of my parents. They were self-centered and self-absorbed with an inflated self-image and thought they were better than others. They often disregard other people's needs and concerns, including their children's, because they believe their needs and feelings are the most important.
