Dear Oliver

Kneeling by your bedside,

My heart keens for your stiff embrace.

Never again will you lean on my arm

Or rasp in my ear, those three words,

I so dearly wish to hear.

Your rattling breath grows thinner, softer,

As I brush my hand through your auburn tresses.

I pray to understand why, why God would do this-

how God could do this. I implore Him every day

To allow me one hour, one more minute, to tell you

how much I love you, for you to see Isaac

Run to your bedside and call you, "Father"

My pearly tears wet your cheeks,

As your labored breathing does finally cease.

I caress your jaw and kiss your pallid brow

And pray the the angels sing your favorite tale,

As you dance into Heaven above.

All my love,

Rose
