[ MOVIE 1 - THE PRINCESS DIARIES ]

[ CHAPTER THIRTEEN ]

GRANDMA SMILED AT THE BOTH US, a certain twinkle in her eye. She was sitting down between Mia and me with two small pouches in her lap. I eyed them wearily, not knowing what to expect since she always seemed to shock me.

"It's a present for your sixteenth birthday from your father." Grandma revealed to the both us as she handed Mia the purple pouch meanwhile I got the red one

"It was found among his possessions." Grandma informed us quietly and I could see the tears building up at the mention of our dad, her son

"Our birthdays are in two weeks." Mia reminded our grandmother who smiled down at her fondly, watching as Mia opened her bag to reveal a red sealed journal

"I know. I wanted the two of you to have them before we left. I return to Genovia the day after tomorrow." Grandma reminded us this time as I opened the gift to reveal a photo album that read Philippe & Rosemarie: The Memories in the center of it

"Thank you" Both Mia and I thanked our grandmother gratefully as we clutched our gifts tightly to our chest and tears sprang to my eyes

"It's locked." Mia said to our grandma after she tried to open it but couldn't and let it rest on her lap

"Also the photo album" I pointed out to my older sister as I showed her the spine of the huge book to see a small keyhole

"If you open the locket I gave you, it becomes the key. Rosemarie, the charm bracelet, the charm is the key to open the photo album." Grandma informed both Mia and I who nodded our heads at her words, trying to process it

"Thank you for bringing them down here." Mia thanked our grandmother as I placed my hand underneath the sleeve of my left arm to touch the charm bracelet

"I also came to apologize, to the both of you for the way I have last spoken to you two. It was judgmental of me. I didn't pause to verify all the facts. Rosemarie, I left you with so much pressure on to be the perfect Queen that I didn't let you act like a teenager that you are." Grandma apologized to the both of us in a sad tone as her lips curled down into a frown

"That's all right." Both Mia and I said to our grandmother, waving it off as if her words never cut deep into us

"I've been think thinking about it a great deal and the truth is, I think that the two of you would make fine princesses. People think princesses are supposed to get everything they wanted, to wear tiaras, marry the prince and live happily ever after. It's so much more than that, it's a real job." Grandma explained to the both of us as she looked between the two of us
