Chapter 6: L's First Kiss

TUESDAY 6:42 PM

"The girl? Oh, you mean this one, my little blonde assistant! I don't think so...she's quite great company.", Edward stated grabbing ahold of my hand, it was startling. This was my chance, I could be free from this man.

"Thank god you saved me!", I cried tearing my hand away from Edward's and embracing Batman. I heard him mutter 'traitor' beneath his breath but I ignored it and grabbed a Batarang off of Batman's utility belt. I used full force and shoved it right through his suit and into his abdomen. I grabbed Edward by the hand and dragged him to the staircase.

"I take back what I said, you are really quite the company!", he smiled grabbing me by the waist. "Now get ready because we're going to jump." We both jumped and he did something strange with his cane turning it into a grappling hook. We made it to the first floor and ran as fast as we could. We went through the back after spotting the police cars in the front of the building. We booked it and got in the car quickly getting the hell out of there. Before we went back to his place we made a pit stop and stole a bunch of stuff from the mall. Once we did get back to his place I carried my stolen goods inside. I stashed it all inside of Edward's room and walked back downstairs. I strutted around with my mask on in front of a confused Jonathan.

"What are you so lively about? Did Edward make his move? Or am I off?", he asked. I stopped in my tracks but was lucky enough to not be facing Jonathan because he could have seen my flustered self.

"You're very off.", I hesitantly responded.

"That long pause says otherwise.", he said cheekily. I just rolled my eyes and sat on the couch next to him, he was reading a book but the cover was torn off so I couldn't tell what it was. Edward crept up from behind us and rested his elbows on our shoulders.

"You called? I could've sworn I heard my name!", he announced. Jonathan lowered his book down and rested it on his lap then turned back to look at Edward.

"You must have misheard. L and I were just discussing whether she has ever been with someone romantically.", he casually said reburying his head in his book. I sent him dagger stares before putting my attention back to Edward.

"Have you?", he asked looking me in the eyes.

"Nope.", Jonathan answered as he turned the page of his book. Well, I may not have asked him to respond but he was pretty damn right.

"Interesting...", Edward said to himself but we both heard him clear as day. To be fair I'm not a bold person, being in a romantic relationship with someone was just something I expected to be handed to me. I was waiting for Richard to ask me but he still hadn't.

"Quite a surprise coming from a teenager don't you think Edward?", Jonathan asked still keeping his eyes glued to his book. Edward walked around to the front of the couch and sat down beside me, a little bit too close if you asked me.

"Oh come on Johnny some people just don't prioritize things like that.", he said reaching for the television remote. "Let's see our debut on the news!" He turned the TV on and changed it through the many channels all the way to the news. On the screen was that red-headed news reporter standing beside a bunch of police cars.

"This is Vicki Vale reporting from the outside of Wayne Tower. We were recently informed that today after going into hiding for months the Riddler finally showed his face. Surprisingly the girl who was kidnapped by the Scarecrow was seen along with him for the mayhem. Based on confidential information we have uncovered that the girl is L Thackeray who is a senior at Gotham High. Witnesses say the Riddler and the girl were last seen ransacking a mall." It was unbelievable but people at the mall had even recorded us running around, I for one didn't do much besides shoplifting like most teenagers but Edward went mad and destroyed public property. "In further news, former District Attorney Harvey Dent, now known as Two-Face has just been released from Arkham. Many are aski-" Edward turned the television off before Vicki could even finish her sentence.
