It's Christmas,
The time of year when we remember
The baby Jesus, and all children, most joyously.
Jesus said, "I am the light."
He spoke for all of us,
Not claiming to be the source of any physical light,
He was speaking of inner light, the light of the spirit.
We all know this light.
It is, after all, our only light.
When we close our eyes, all outer light goes away.
And only our inner light remains.
This is the light that Jesus urged us to let shine.
At Christmas time we proclaim this broadly
With candles and Christmas lights of all kinds.
These lights are symbols of our inner light, the light of Jesus.
We shine for each other, just as Jesus shone for us.
Shine brightly.
